Hey again all,
With my new venture into carto use, I figure it is time for a head to head battle between two large capacity cartos; 3.5 ml Echo Cartomizers & 3.5 ml smok Tech Dual Coil Cartomizers.
In the end I will weigh the pros and cons of both systems and suggest the one I think is best and why!
Okay, let's get started...
Echo 3.5 ml Bottom Coil Cartomizer
I received this product free of charge for the purpose of a review, but I have been putting the carto through it's paces.
Right out of the box, this carto comes individually wrapped and also comes with a plastic rubber end cap that reminds me of an old 801 cartridge (the rubber tip is only compatible with the Echo, tried fitting it on other 'cone-style' devices and it doesn't come close).
These "cone-style" cartomizers are a lot like a Bloog Cartomizer (but far from the same); They can be boiled (not plastic), have a bottom mounted horizontal coil and 2 stage wicking system. BUT, the coil at the bottom of this carto is huge and this is a very good thing in my books.
I found that after filling the Echo initially, the vapor was not as hot or providing much of a TH, even compared to a bloog carto on a bloog battery. The larger coil just needed time to break in a little and after a day of use it finally started to produce decent vapor and a decent TH.
On the second day I found my Echo cartomizer started to taste "off" unless completely filled with juice and oddly enough that put me off of vaping it. I think that the design is similar to Bloog/ Volt but not exactly the same in some respects. I can say this carto tasted burned after only a couple days of use whereas standard Bloog cartos last at least 3-5 fills.
Pros - High capacity, can be boiled, large coil, comfortable mouthpiece
Cons - Burn easily compared to other bottom coils, takes a while to break in the coil, a pain to fill without a syringe, you can't see the juice/ burned filler.
3.5 ml Dual Coil Mega XL Cartomizer
I paid my own money for this product, so no freebies here. I also have not had the time to become as acquainted with these as opposed to the Echo carto because I just received my shipment today. I will post updates as I learn the in's & outs of these bad boys.
I've been pretty excited to try these cartos since I noticed that Al at CDN was stocking them. I have been drooling over a Liquinator for a while now and I needed a high capacity carto to keep me busy until I get one. I am making plans to quit the nicotine and I am looking to make the experience as "drip-free" and hassle-free as possible (I find one of the flaws with quitting the nic & dripping is that it gets to a point where I feel like it isn't 'worth it' to go through the hassle of it. It's a personal issue, lol, but I feel that less fiddling means less frustration down the road.)
Anyway, back to the cartos, lol.
Upon opening my pack of these cartos I was surprised with how thick the plastic casing is and also with how long it is. With almost the exact same circumference as my eGo battery, this carto is pretty big, not as big as a Tank Mod mind you but still big for a carto.
This carto is not a "Cone-Style" so it literally looks like an oversized clear dual coil carto with a new tip design. The rubberized plastic tip that comes with each carto is very "drip-tip like" and even more comfortable than the rubberized whistle tip cap that comes with the Echo.
When I filled my first Mega XL Dual Coil Carto, I noticed that I can only fit around 2.5-3 ml in it. So maybe not the 3.5-4 ml I was expecting but still a good size. What I wasn't expecting was the flavour and lack of TH. The juice tasted off and much more like a carto than usual for me, not sure why this was but the batting flavour was really pronounced. Besides that, the TH just wasn't as powerful as I am used to with the regular Dual Coil cartos.
I figure this has to do with the size of the coil(s) involved for both the Echo and the Smok Tech cartos. It seems the larger the coil, the longer it will take to fully break in and give the user the exact performance they want.
As I have been using the Smok Tech it has been breaking in and the flavour and TH are slowly getting better and no burning flavour yet, but time will have to tell.
Pros - Good capacity, thick plastic casing, perfect mouthpiece, easy to see when you need to fill/ when the carto is burning
Cons - Still have to be "broken in", best to be filled with a syringe due to capacity, strange flavour when fresh out of the package, will definitely look as gross as a standard Dual Coil Clearo with regular use, can not be boiled.
The jury is still out on which one is best, but I will be sure to update as always.
Thanks for reading! And as I use the Smok Tech carto over the next few days I will report back. The TH is still not as good as a standard Dual Coil but it is only 3 hours old at this point and will probably need another 12 hours to break in completely.
If it doesn't stack up with it's smaller predecessor, I will be very disappointed but if it does perform the same I will be in vaping heaven until I get my liquinator. Let's hope it's the latter!
More reviews coming soon! Including; Dual Coil KR808D-1 Cartomizers and 1500 mah KR808D-1 PCC's
EDIT: I am pleased to report that the clear winner is Smok Tech's 3.5 ml Dual Coil Carto. Way better TH, way better vapour and flavour exactly at par with it's little brother. Even HV users will love these for the capacity and familiarity
