Since I am still waiting for my fasttech 'Caravela' clone to arrive from China, I decided to install my new AeroTank clearomizer on top of a Vision 'Spinner' (900 mAh) adjustable voltage battery that I happened to have. I seem to get about the best vape out of the AeroTank with the Spinner set on 4.3v - 4.5v

Now, I perceive a real problem coming up when I set this AeroTank on top of the Caravella clone ... The Efest IMR-18650 battery (2000 mAh) that I will be using only puts out 3.7v. That is just not going to be enough for this Aerotank. Just for grins, I set the voltage on my Spinner battery to 3.7v just to see how the AeroTank would do .... No Good ... not enough voltage!

So, if I want to use a Mechanical mod like the Caravella, I guess the only option would be to get an Evolv 'Kick' so I can get the volts boosted from 3.7 up to about 4.3 to 4.5

I just bought a couple of these 18650 batteries ... now it looks like I will need to buy not only the Kick, but also buy a smaller 18500 batteries for use in the Caravela 18650 tube.

Any other suggestions besides not using the AeroTank with a 3.7 fixed voltage battery?

Thanks,

You've just discovered the limits of a mechanical mod using a fixed voltage battery. You'll get 4.1 volts with a fully charged battery, and then it'll be downhill from there as the battery charge dwindles down to 3.5 volts as its used.

Using a Kick module will regulate the voltage and keep it where you set it. It will also increase the voltage like a variable wattage mod will. You are correct that the Kick takes up room in the battery compartment, so you may need to drop down a battery size to use it.

Baditude ... As always, thanks a bunch for your useful info. Really nice that someone knowledgeable like yourself is here to help us new people to vaping.

Here is what I just don't understand ... I have been using the Kanger T2 Sunfire clearomizer attached to the Spinner adjustable voltage battery. The single coil in the T2 is rated at 2.5 ohms, and seems to perform the best with 4.1v

As for the "genuine" Kanger AeroTank clearomizer I bought from Mt Baker here in the US ... It is a dual coil model and is rated at only 2.0 ohms.

If the 2.5 ohm T2 works best with 4.1 volts, I would think the AeroTank would work best with less than 4.1 volts since it has less ohms of resistance. I really thought that 3.7v might be just about perfect ... but it does it's best at about 4.3-4.5 volts (even more than needed on the T2). The AeroTank puts out very little vapor when getting only 3.7v using my Spinner battery.

This makes no sense to me.

Your scenario makes senseFlt Simulation. What is happening is that the power is being split between two coils in the AeroTank. 3.7V at 2 ohms is 6.8 watts. That is 3.4 watts per coil which is just too low to perform well, even with two of them.

4.1V at 2.5 ohms in the T2 is 6.7 watts on one coil, getting enough heat into it to make it perform.

I found this thread and thought it may be a good place to ask my question. I have what I believe to be a clone eGo 650 battery. It falls under the description of being a C. It doesn't have any voltage changing options on it and no markings as to what brand it is. I later purchased some evod tanks that work very well with it and threw away the cloned tanks as I couldn't find replacement coils easily. I then purchased one aerotank and it worked great at first but now it's not producing enough for me. I know it may be my e-juice (hazelnut coffee) which is dark and thick but I'm starting to think it is also my battery not being strong enough. I asked my local shop and they stated that from what I was saying (when I originally purchased the aerotank) that my eGo would be sufficient. In light of my new "needs," can you recommend the next battery upgrade I would need to push the liquid and give a good hit and vapor? I'm not a pro by any means but I do know how to clean my coil and do a dry burn. I clean my tanks every time I refill. I also change my coils with each flavor change and I do a good cleaning and a dry burn. Anyway, maybe too much info but I'd like a good opinion on the battery issue. Thanks!!

Depends partly on your budget and liking.

I like the MVP a lot, and use it (and also an innokin VV V3) all the time, and hioghly recommend both. The MVP lasts a long time between charges and has great features if you like a box mod, and you should be able to get it for around $40-$50. If you prefer something smaller the VV V3 is also a great PV. Both have VV/VW, and a built-in ohmmeter. They top out at 11 watts which I've found to be more than adequate for the heads I use.
