I saw some 32 gauge stainless steel wire and wondered if anyone has used it instead of kanthal. I cant see why it couldnt be used. Its not very expensive, 100 yards for 8.95. I would think that the great clean taste one gets from ss mesh would be the same with wire? I also assume that it would be easy to torch it to oxidise it also?

What you mean ? Any pics of the wire?

And do you mean to use it instead of wick?

why did you confuse us by saying "I would think the same clean taste with the stainless steel MESH would be the same with stainless steel wire" lol? anyway, you need to be SURE of the contents of the wire. You don't want metal poisoning. Now if you take a bunch of kanthal and twist it up into a metal rope and use it as a wick, let us know how that works for you. lol.

I meant that if you wrap your wick with ss wire instead of kanthal would it give me the same cleaner taste that people who use Ss mesh claim. If its is marked Stainless Steel im assuming its all stainless steel . Im sorry to have confused anyone. I was just curious to see if anyone used it instead of kanthal or nichrome to wrap their silica wick. :(

I just went back to read any fine print on the stainless steel wire, its being sold as stainless steel but I blew up the photo and in tiny print it says its stainless steel coloured coated copper. That is really bad advertising. Disregard the links to buy.
But anyway I have seen 100% stainless steel round wire before.

I have done it in past and it works ana. But you need more SS wick than nichrome or kanthal because it has less resistance than kanthal or nichrome wire. As for the taste, it will not change because taste depends on wick. But its a metter of taste always. Some people like mesh taste, some others like silica taste. Personally I never liked mesh taste, its too metalic for me

I never said I wanted to make a braided or any kind of stainless steel wick, I said stainless steel wire instead of kanthal. I dont know where the stainless wick came from. I dont like genesis type of atties for that reason, dont like the harsh taste. I like silica or cotton.I was just looking at different types of wire options. Geez . Im glad that at least I gave everyone a good laugh.

Thank you Imeo for your thoughts and opinion.

no i know, I'm just saying, a braided stainless steel wire wick would be interesting lol.
the only reason I thought you meant using stainless steel wire as a wick is that you wrote this:
"I would think that the great clean taste one gets from ss mesh would be the same with wire?"
so from reading that sentence, I was like "wait, is he saying he wants SS wire for a WICK?"
And then after posting my 1st response, I realized you did not mean that... and you were
actually wondering if using SS WIRE would make things taste cleaner.
But then I reiterated that a stainless steel wire WICK would be interesting. lol. I'm sorry.
My fault. I'm just a scatter brained forum freak at this point in the night.

Now, you're making me lol, you're not a scatter brained freak, actually Ive been accused many times of coming up with unheard of things that turned out to be great, especially when repairing things like refrigerators, computers etc. I guess that is how many brilliant things have come to pass. Im sure Imeo when he was throwing ideas around way back when, was told a few times, that his Ideas were " not possible" or crazy or that it would never work. But im so glad he made them for us to enjoy the best vape around, I love my Odysseus.

To be honest I also taste metallic with Mesh .... It gives the jiuce that citrusy like taste " corrosion if anyone works with metal will know what I'm on about" .... So that is added to ur juice and maybe youll think that is an undertone flv IMO .

But taste is subjective anyway.

so you don't think braided wire would have capillary action? In my mind, I'm thinking it would? I'm wondering if you tipped it, juice would run through it, because its got many imperfections in the seal between the many wires that make up the whole braided wick... I've only been rebuilding a short time and the 1 SS mesh rebuildable I've got running now is so tight that it barely has any capillary action, I HAVE to tip it for it to work... And by tipping it, it soaks up juice and emits that juice through its porous surface, right? So, I'm wondering, if you made a braided wick with wire... maybe it wouldn't have the best of both worlds, but it might have better capillary action that SS mesh, or it may have better juice holding features than SS mesh, or it may work better when you tip it than SS mesh. who knows? I'd try it if I had a whole mess of wire. just saying. It might just depend on the thickness of the braid.. You could use oxidized SS wire or silver wire with no resistance to make this twisted wick, then wrap a coil around it. IDK.. I'll try it and let everyone know how it does, if and when I can.

You would have to tip it to get any juice flow with that setup. There is nothing for the juice to "go into" because the wire is solid.

It would be almost no different than using a drill bit, or something like it for wick. The juice would run along it when the PV is tipped, but, it would not be absorbed.

You would also then have the prob with oxidizing it which would much harder to do than the mesh is.

Please do experiment. I'm always interested in innovation and have no qualms at all about eating crow :D

Hi guys ... I got a small prob today ... After I managed to rewick my penny 3 times , today I decided to rewick again but I am getting an awful taste of metal ... Nothing is touching and everything is in place , I also burned the ceramic but still nothing ... Seems like the wire is getting to hot but reading normal ohms at 2.1 ....

I'm lost :(
