Other than the dirty looks, and conservativity, how was your stay? Did you go to see the Golden gate bridge or any of the other wonderful sights?
I saw the Golden Gate Bridge both sides which was even more stunning because of the stark contrast in weather either side of the bridge.
With teenage hormones playing havoc - I was on the hunt a bit, but at that age and with my parents in tow I didn't get very far. It did cross my mind to walk up to complete strangers and ask them "do you know where the homosexuals are?" (because I really was a kid I had no idea where to look).
Went to Alcatraz which has only served to worsen all my bondage fantasies. My parents must have felt sorry for me being too young to REALLY enjoy the city and took me to one of the famous icecream emporiums on the bay.

That must of been such a beautiful site and by the you speak of it still, its sounds unforgettable. Alcatraz? Yes I can definitely see that embellishing the desires you already had!
I always wondered about that, finding mates that is. Isn't kind of scary knowing the consequences of assuming one's homosexual when that one may have a very closed mind? Is there a way that you guys can just tell?
