Couldn't find a mod that could fit my needs as a smoker-turned-vaper - that is it could fit comfortably inside my pocket and also minimize stress on the atty. And more importantly currently almost all mods in market are basically a box with the atty sticking out. - I absolutely hate how the atty sticks out, it should be integrated with the design as much as possible.

So designed this to be used with the Evolv dna series of chips for vapers.

NOTES:
  1. Currently the battery compartment is a little bit of a tight fit. I could install an AW 2200mah IMR no probs but future revisions I will make it bigger.
  2. While the fire button could work, the two small buttons was almost impossible to install. Current workaround is to have two tact switches soldered on and thrown in the space near the wires.
  3. Need more curves.
  4. Box clasps badly designed. I'm holding the whole thing together using a rubber band currently. :)
  5. Eventually will add a cover, so the atty will be protected sufficiently while jostling in pocket.
Will address these in later revisions or you are free to do your magic.

I've designed v2 yesterday for a tighter fit and to take slightly bigger batts. External latches are replaced with internal ones and cover is secured with a M2x6 screw now, though you can still use a rubber band if you want easy access. Here's how it looks in my hand.

Will upload v2 schematics soon. With a AW 18650 IMR 2200 and moderate-heavy vaping at 8W it lasts one-half to two days.

If done right when you bring it up to your mouth it looks like you are coughing... Only that vapor comes out after which haha.

Looks nice. You could make it less tall by putting the screen on the back wall under the clearomizer (the back wall being the opposite side to the cover). Then the height would only be that of the battery. You could secure the cover with small magnets, although screws would make it stronger if there was room for an internal charging board. I like the simplicity and compact design. In aluminium it would be really nice with slightly rounded corners. Thanks for sharing!

That's an idea! I do have space on the back wall for the screen, just wondering if the ribbon cable (the greatest flaw in the DNA chips if you ask me) can take the slight twisting.

Will try and incorporate your idea in rev3, including the curves which quite a lot of folks are asking for. But have to wait cos I'm awaiting some parts to come in right now that I would like to try, hopefully next week or so.

Thanks again for the suggestions!

Hi Ian, currently to save space the design involves pressing buttons on the board direct... So turning the board 90 degrees might not be ideal.

Someone asked if the 510 is secure, don't worry the 510 is tight as a rock. Had to hammer it into the enclosure and dabbed with CA glue around. Though it'll definitely be sturdier if the case is metal.

Someone asked if this is lefty friendly, here ya go.

Upcoming changes in revision 3:
1. Substitute current 510 connector for a fatdaddyvapes v4 15mm
2. Reducing size even further
3. Curved walls for a more comfortable hold
4. Moving screen to a side wall for vertical space saving (thanks to Ian444)
5. Incorporation of some really small tact switches. (maybe)
6. Magnets as mechanism to secure cover (2x1 neodymium)
7. Space enough for a usb charger?
8. Refine switches design to be recessed
9. Funky switch design, maybe fire button really looks like a fire icon, and print using glow in the dark filament.

Waiting for the parts to come in will update design once done.

Heya Ian,

Wow those are small! Currently I've put in an order for 140pcs of assorted tact switches to try, but what you found is actually smaller. Will place an order, you are a gem mate.

For charging circuit, I'm getting the TP4056 1A charging circuit. Tbh I'm quite resistant to the idea of putting a charge circuit in as 1) it's slow, 2) it adds complexity and 3) one more thing to screw up. Will try though.

Now just waiting for goodies to come in but you know how it's the holiday season and all... V3 probably will only be out in Jan '15 haha.

Meanwhile, some photo porn. Decided to call it the FreddyMod after my friend who passed me his DNA 20 to make this all possible.

I wouldn't stress over it, most people who have 18650's have a 2-bay or 4-bay charger anyway, and batteries to fill them. You can always incorporate it in a future version, if you find you have enough room. I only mentioned it in case you were looking for a charger circuit to put into it.

Pic looks nice, simple, compact, way to go :)
