I really want a dna 200 device. But, I'm not blown away by any of the mods that I've seen out there.

I have seen that Shapeways beta style mod that seems like it fits the DNA200 board. But, the revisions have me concerned. Is it good enough yet? I like the look.

Evolv DNA200 Case with Buttons (6524725AS) by slutlab

So, do these require any mode or drilling to assemble? Does the DNA200 board fit well? I can solder, but I don't know what else is required.

Is it as easy as it seems? Has someone done a build thread or something like that?

Hi

It's damm easy compared to other diy mods.

You do need to know how to solder and you do need to make a clean job.

I think I posted on the dna 200 thread a step by step build but without any pics (I was lazy lol).

Total build time was like 30 minutes.

No sanding, drilling or tapping required. You could sand a little the buttons if you really are OCD but... Nah, they work good just as is :)

Tony

I got my slutlab case a few days ago. I haven't had time to assemble yet and still need case and board screws. I can say, after some initial test-fits, the usb port tapers inward on the backside of the faceplate and is gonna require some serious sanding to open it up. I will also sand the button openings to prevent any sticking situtations although it may be totally unnecessary functionally (but totally necessary for my OCD) as tchavei says.

I'm surprised at the USB thing. Mine fitted perfectly on first try? :/

I will say that the 3d files for the dna 200 board are available so anyone who is designing a 3d printed case should be able to use those as reference.
I assembled mine and everything is up and running. I got case screws from fastenal and used some spare atty post screws to fasten the board. As far as fitment goes the case usb port required about 10 minutes of work, the button holes got a couple minutes work but the most time was spent sanding the backside of the buttons. First two tries resulted in all buttons being activated. Third times the charm.

950mah turnigy nano tech or flightpower 800mah. Those two I'm 100% sure. I'm using the turnigy myself.

Much appreciated Tony.... I've been trying to get a metal enclosure, but that doesn't look like its happening anytime soon :( I've got 3 DNA200 chips, none have been built yet. Today I got a 3D printed enclosure and 1300mah battery on its way to me - I've been trying to avoid the 3D printed enclosures, wanting something less brittle, more durable - but being an "early adopter" has its setbacks.... in a few months no doubt there will be lots of enclosures to choose from - but right now there is not.

Wow that is much nicer than I thought those would be. They are very affordable also which is in itself is a surprise for a shapeway's print. Do you get half a day on the battery or so? Thats what I get from my SX mod with a single VTC5.

Thanks

I get a full day out of the turnigy. 6ml at 20W

I just put it on the charger before going to sleep and unplug it when I wake up. I hardly sleep more than 4-5 hours so it's OK for at least 20 hours. :)

I also thought the 3d printed enclosures would suck but they are much better than expected. I already dropped my mod twice without a hitch and I don't have to worry with scratches or dents. It looks like the day I built it :)
