Hi All,

I have access to two 3D printers at school. I have been interested in printing with them for some time now. The flame really went on after seeing the Tibs 2. Thanks for the inspiration Bapgood. I am able to find a lot of great information on the parts and electronics in the forum. I really need some direction iin designing the box though. Spring Break is less than a week away. I figure if I order the necessary parts now, It can be done with next week. The printers are named the Poly Printer and Uprint SE Plus. Thanks in advance.

You will need to be a bit more specific. What problem are you having in designing the box? If you know how to model in a 3D or CAD program then the sky is pretty much the limit.

If you do not know how to model I believe there is one dna box mod design on thingiverse. Have no idea if it prints or works but ran it across it one day.

If you need specific parts, you can find models on grabcad for things like batteries and holders, mcmaster-carr provides 3D models for most of all the parts they sell on the product detail pages and various manufacturers as well. If you can't find what you need you will have to measure a physical part with digital calipers and make it yourself.

Jmac covered things very well. The Tibs-2 is designed to use the on board buttons to keep things simple.

The big thing is that the design has to accommodate the printer or print technology used. I have access to a Cubify CubeX Duo at work which is a filament style printer, however the print quality and detail availability is nothing compared to what Shapeways can print using their SLS printers. I'm not familiar with the Uprint SE Plus, but from the pics on their website it looks like it might be able to print some fairly good detail.

Thank you. DNA30D arrived yesterday and micro usb. Mouser called and woke me up. They wanted me to be tax-free so bad, but the angel on my right shoulder wouldn't allow it. Lol. Excellent customer service. Mansfield is on the other side of town so I should recieve everything today. Then the 3D printing beast!
