I wrapped a tight 500 ss mesh wick, as much as would fit into my DID atomizer's wick hole. Rolled a 4/5 30g kanthal tight. Dry burned and evened out all the hot spots so it glows evenly. Filled it up, set the voltage to 4.5 (any higher and the juice tastes burnt) the steel cap of the DID turns hot as hell so I know the coils are burning but I'm lucky to get some vapor coming out of my mouth after hitting the damn thing for a solid 10 seconds, FFS! What's the deal? It's not the juice I tried juices from 2 different vendors, one is 50/50 another is 25/75 pg.. I'm seriously begging to think it's the ProVari, I set this build up as perfect as it gets, I bet if I had a mechanical mod my room would be full of smoke by now..

Has anyone else run into this problem with a rebuildable or with a provari? The interesting thing is the coils are running HOT, any hotter (4.6v +) and the juice tastes burnt. The thing firing can be heard from 2 feet away, and up close sounds like a radiator at peak capacity. The steel cap of the DID is hot to the touch after about 10 seconds of firing but there's barely any vapor production.

Can someone please help me out, I've been trying to set this damn thing up for a year now

sounds like this is the problem right here and it is absorbing the heat faster then it can move juice to the coil.
provari has nothing to do with this.

need to make the wick fit the hole for sure but a really solid wick will never move juice fast enough and with the DID the wickhole is huge so thats a lot of mesh to soak up all that coil heat instead of vaporize juice. for the standard? hmm havent used it in a while but i think i was going with around 60 ish mm wide piece of mesh and would roll it down till it just barely slid into the the wick hole leaving a small channel up the center.

in almost all genis i have found too much mesh is almost never a good thing.

Agreed. Sounds like you've got a heat sink problem. Try wrapping a thin wall tube wick around the proper size filling needle - likely a 14 or 16g needle. My mesh cuts for gennies tend to be no more than 3/4" wide for 2-3 wraps around the needle, and I get very good flavor and vapor out of my gennies. When using a tube wick, I find it easier to wrap the coil with the filling needles still in the mesh.

Also, please post pics. It will help us diagnose the problem with a bit more accuracy.

I think this is it, I came to the same conclusion after cooling off a bit. The monster wick I've got in here is basically a solid rod of steel. If you think about it, when you have a wick wrapped this tight, where there is no central shaft nor any room in between the layers, the juice can't really flow upwards at all. It can only travel sideways through the mesh grain.

If you get a central shaft down the center of the wick, then the juice will be able to come in sideways in the tank, flow up in through the central shaft, then sideways again towards the coil.

This was the first time I rolled a 500 wick. After hearing all the rave, I bought a sheet. I used to always wrap 400 mesh with a central shaft down the center and they wicked ok, but nothing special. Dry hits were not uncommon. I'll take a few wraps off this 500, get a central shaft down the middle, and post the results.

Thanks for all the replies guys.
