I know the "accepted" low is .5 but after factoring in voltage drop of the device and battery under load, .4 seems to sound ok. Has anyone ran this for any amount of time? I'm going to give it a shot on my next build.

You might be fine... but why? Do yourself a favour and get some 30 amp batteries if you want to go that low. There's no badge for pushing your bats to the limit.
No, no one has ran that for a long period of time. The reason, you are looking at fast battery failure. At best, the battery will vent, worst, you'll be in the market for a new hand. Please read up on battery safety and Ohm's law.
Personally, I wouldn't even vape a .5 ohm build on a 10 amp continuous battery. Not leaving much buffer. For safety I like having as much amp buffer as possible when going straight mechanical. Would use my 16 amp on a .5, but feel better using a 30 amp battery. May not need it, but feel better about it. Sure, assuming everything was perfect and the was no ohm fluctuation, you'd be right at the max amp limitations, pushing it, but just because my engine red line at 6500 rpm, does that mean I should always be driving it at redline? What's that going to do for the engine life expectancy? Then once the engine/battery gets worn down, the useful amp/rev limit will drop. Good batteries for one vaping needs are not that expensive so why push the pedal to the metal all the time? Just my thoughts on the issue.

You apparently do understand that the max limits of these batteries are just that maximum limits. Not some kind of goal or target you are trying to shoot for. If you want to stay safe - or not have to replace a battery every other day - you operate below the max limits, not right on top of it.

PLEASE don't do this!!! The bottom line is that when people attempt to push the limits the limits will eventually fail in one way or another. Best case scenario you ruin you battery and melt the insulators in your device. Worst case - a very high dental bill and a trip to a hospital. These are just the ramifications YOU face. When people do things that are potentially dangerous with mechanical mods and rebuildable atomizers they run the risk of gaining a bad reputation. Don't do something that will make those of us who do know what we're doing look bad.
All that being said do yourself a favor and buy a Sony VTC4 battery, the 30 amp limit will suit your build just fine and they can be had for about 8$. Best of luck!
