Hi all,

I've been reading posts on here for the last couple of weeks and I'm starting to be immersed in "vape culture". I was a heavy dipper (Grizzly Wintergreen) and smoker (Camel Lights) until July 28, 2014 where on a whim I decided to give up both and try vaping. I haven't looked back. I bought a 24/7 starter vaporizer from a tobacco store which has now become completely worthless (I don't even know the battery voltage). It did get me through the tough transition though. Once I realized something was wrong with the clearomizer part I found an e-cig shop and bought a Kanger EVOD. For the first time, I actually vaped. Problem was, this thing only lasted about 3 days before it tasted like metal. That's when I learned on here about ohms and voltage and how I probably fried the thing. Anyway, I've finally found a vape shop locally that seemed to really care about my story and set me up with what I think is a proper rig. They even replaced the coil in my EVOD for free (even though I bought it somewhere else). Now, I'm switching between an EVOD (for my sweet juices) and the EVOD2 (for my tobacco based juices) and I'm using a smok 1300 mah Variable Voltage battery. I'm using it a 3.3v on the 1.5 ohm EVOD coils and 3.7v on the 1.8 ohm EVOD2 coils. So far, so good.. and I wouldn't known any of this without this forum. I'm also enjoying some quality Beatlejuice and The Virus from Nicoticket, which is by far superior to any of the juices I've tasted from any of my local retailers. Well that's my introduction, but here's my question... WHEN DO I STOP COUGHING? I mean it's worse than when I actually smoked. I keep reading that I need to hang in there, but it's been 4 weeks now. In the morning, when my nicotine cravings are the hardest I can barely get half a vape down without coughing like crazy. This morning wasn't too bad, but I just had a coughing fit this afternoon after vaping pretty hard. Thanks in advance and thanks for reading my wordy first post.

Welcome to ECF! First and foremost, you don't mention the nic strength you're using, it does factor in! It could also be that you are intolerant to PG or it could be that your lungs are just not done cleaning themselves out. A lot of ex smokers notice that there is a period after they quit where they cough their lungs out as the normal expectorant functions of the lungs return to normal.

Have you tried slower, smaller draws? Is it the temperature or something else that seems to trigger it?

I'm using either 18mg or 12mg nicotine strength. It just depends on what I'm loading up with. I normally vape until the light starts blinking. I hold it in my mouth for a second or two then inhale and exhale out the nose. I'm a fiend. I could try smaller draws I guess, but I get real cranky without my nicotine. I smoked Camel Lights for 25 years, so maybe I just need to be patient. I don't think I'm allergic to the PG... at least I don't want to be.

if the 18mg is not satisfying ( maybe why you hit it like a beast) you might try 24mg just to see how it works , i started at 48mg and by no way would i advise anybody to do as i did , but for 32yrs 1 1/2 - 2pad i was needing something to break the cycle and after several months i cut it in half now 4yrs later im down to 6mg and i could go to zero but im not gonna

My first few inhales in the morning can make me cough. I found that if I lower the voltage down a little, it fixes the issue. Then when my throat and lungs "wake up" I can raise the voltage again.
It took me a ling time before I figured this out myself. I draw low voltage with my morning coffee and then jack it up for the rest of the day lowering it again before I go to bed so I can avoid any irritation while trying to fall asleep.

Btw, I'm using 24mg nic 70pg/30vg juice.

Just A rough shot in the dark to why you might be coughing so bad is that you are running dual coils at a low voltage. It takes time for the coils to heat up properly so that could be part of why your hitting the 10 sec cutoff, getting a cold sporadic vape thus making you cough. I run a 1.5 ohm at 4.1-4.3 volts, give the evod a sec to heat up and then draw steady. I would before I juiced up a new head, open it up and dry fire it to see if both coils heat up together properly. If not then I would learn some dual coil DIY to save myself the agony of crappy hits from a badly built stock head.
