Today marks 4 weeks since I quit smoking. I can't say it has been without cravings, but they've been few. I never thought I'd ever be able to look my wife, my children, or my mother in the eyes and tell them I am smoke free.

When I was a child, my mom was a 3-4 PAD smoker...as was my Dad. Mom was diagnosed with emphysema. She quit cold turkey about 30 years ago, and went through a number of massive side effects. She ended up going through a nervous breakdown due in part to the withdraws. My Dad continued to smoke, albeit outside and away from Mom, up until he died in 2010. He didn't die from smoking, but he was on his way. 3 days before he passed, they found a mass on his right lung. It's not what killed him, but if Agent Orange didn't, it would have. It was later determined to be cancerous...but by then, he was already gone.

I've been a tobacco user, in one form or another, since I was in the 3rd grade. As I've stated here before, we used to grow it on our farm in Southern Ohio. I went from chewing tobacco to snuff, then to cigarettes, then on to pipes and cigars, back to cigs, and went back to snuff and snuss in an effort to cut back on smoking...it didn't really work.

I tried nearly everything but medications...because they are so close to, or include anti-depressant and mind altering medications. One of them, which I won't name, has side effects that includes very vivid dreams and suicidal/homicidal tendencies. Knowing that I've always worked with dangerous materials as a toolmaker, and then a gunsmith, there was no way I'd ever go on those meds...so I continued to smoke, instead.

Four and a half weeks ago, my oldest daughter introduced me to a pink, strange contraption she called a Vape Pen. It was strange to me as it was an electronic device that you activated, sucked in the vapors, and inhaled. The flavor it emitted was rather tasty...Green Apple. When she told me that she had quit smoking and switched to this, I did some research...and a few days later I bought the same starter kit she had...only in a much more manly color of black. I grabbed 2 bottles of 18mg juice, and was on my way.

Since then, I have purchased 4 more eGos in various configurations, as well as a couple of Vision Spinners. I have also purchased enough e-juice to sink a battleship! I have them in 2ml, 10ml, 15ml, and 30ml sizes...many of them in different flavors. The 30ml sizes are the flavor I like the most, and can't ever seem to put down. I've got them in varying different nicotine levels from 6mg all the way of to 24mg. I have also got a hell of a collection of clearomizers...CE4, CE5, iClear16, iClear30, and now an Aspire Nautilus. Add to all of that the two pass-through devices, and you can easily see that I'm heavily invested into this.

The money invested now will wind up being cheaper than buying smokes. I still have yet to match what I would smoke per month, and expect to start seeing a savings within another month or so...after I purchase an iTazte 134. Once that happens, I'll be done for awhile, save for the needed coils and such.

I used to enjoy a smoke after breakfast, lunch and dinner...as well as anytime through the day that it was merited. Now, I vape. I have Tobacco Red cut with Peppermint after breakfast, switch to 555 after lunch, and enjoy Hazelnut Coffee after dinner. I keep one clearo filled with Extreme Ice, a very strong menthol, to keep from getting bored with the other flavors, and I switch out through the day as my mood decides.

I spend a lot of time on this thread, reading and educating myself about all things concerning my new hobby/habit, so I can educate family and friends. I've been smoke free for 4 weeks now...and I'm feeling good. Thanks for having this site and for helping me.

I am getting healthier. Because of vaping, I am Tobacco FREE!

I want to thank each of you for being supportive. I have read through tons of threads here, and have studied the tricks and tips on how to handle the strong cravings that happen...and they have all worked to one extent or another.

Congratulations and welcome to ECF. If only the authorities and media would look at these real life testimonies.......

Bureaucrats don't care unless their pockets are being stuffed with cash. It's a sad but true situation. Big Tobacco, it seems, has pumped a decent amount of money into keeping e-cigs away from harming their bottom line. I curse the day I lit my first one, and celebrate the day I lit the last one.
