Well you're all much braver than I am. I've never come out, oficially, as a smoker nor a vaper, and I don't think I ever will. I'd like to though so they don't ask me why I'm always in my room xD.
I never planned to, but it was just more convenient since I figured they'd find out one way or another lol.

Here's an interesting response for you, because I am the parent, and a year or 2 older than your father. My wife is a RN. At first I heard the "are you smoking again" thing. After I armed myself with the technical information available on this forum, she decided to listen. She did know that PG/VG are harmless. Her major concern is the nicotine. My dentist (a DMD) contends that nicotine in low dosages is actually good for you. (helps digestion, etc.) Someone on this forum made note of the fact that the flavors are the real unknown! Get your info together and present it. I will tell you that it is kind of scary getting information from my boys (28 + 31), but I do listen, I don't always react the way they wish but if it is good information I will take the time to check it out. And quite often I may not tell them until after the fact!..

Yeh, I just read on here that raspberry comes from beaver butts.... checked it out and its true. Have decided not to look into any other flavors because I USED TO love raspberry not only to vape but to flavor ice water with or in hot tea. I wonder if the folks buying raspberry flavored tea know what's in it... LOL

I've smoked for the last 5 years and I finally decided 2 weeks after getting my PV, to tell my parents. I told my father first who has smoked since he was 13 (he's 59) and got the most unexpected reaction. He asked me what I smoked (brand wise). He was pretty understanding and surprisingly he knew what it was, at least the vapor part of it. I then explained the benefits to him and tried to get him to try an e cig. He said he didn't want to. So then came to telling my mother. I showed her the collection of about 10 empty packs of cigs I'd been hiding in my dresser drawer. She became instantly distant. She asked what the empty packs were, she even called vaping "Smoking for Rich People". For an educated RN, I am disappointed in the way she reacted. I shouldn't of had my hopes up, but after my father's reaction, I expected her to not be so put off by it. She hasn't wanted to talk to me after I told her earlier today. I guess I'll try to talk to her later.

So very sorry to hear about their reaction. I'm vaping for my health and although all my family supports me it wouldn't really have veered me off my chosen path. As an RN you know the consequences of smoking and I salute you for coming forward as it's not healthy to have to "skulk" around. I am relatively certain one day they will come around. As for "Vaping is Smoking for Rich People" many of us here not only quit for health reasons but also financial.
Just keep true to your goals and realize one day you'll be married with a hubby and kids and will live long enough to watch your Grandkids walk down the aisle.
The Very Best of Luck.

I wish vaping was an alternative when I was your age.

Sorry mate for the shocking and unexpected reaction from your mother. When I told my wife she was like oh ok good… i was ??? expecting better reaction since I was nagged for yrs about quitting… well in other hand told my mother and she did not know what vamping is and she was so happy that was overwhelming that i was happy that she was happy.
now as where I work in the hospital as an EMT Patient care tech. The hospital has no tolerance for smoking near the hospital property not even 10 feet away from the property. now when I contacted HR they told me that they will get back to me and 2 weeks later they did they told me that is still not permuted not even out doors since they look at it as the “action” is the same as smoking so there for it is still not permuted and they claim that they know all about it. on the other hand the nurses that I work with they are all for it and happy for me as well.
Like every one says get some material and give it to her so she knows what it is and what is about. giver her the time to adjust and take that time to gather the facts about vamping.
good luck bud and we are all VERY PROUD OF YOU!!!

Vaping "is smoking for rich people"?!?!?! Hell, smoking IS smoking for rich people! I've managed to save over two grand in less than two years vaping instead of smoking. Tell your Mum to put that in her pipe... and not smoke it. lol

I gotta wonder though, based on your Mom's reaction - did she even know you were smoking before you told her you switched from smoking to vaping? If not, and she got hit with this all at once, that could explain her reaction - a lot.

Bottom line: You're doing this for yourself! :toast:
Just like alcohol, drugs, or any other "vice", our worst detractors are those who continue those "vices" when we decide it's not in our best interests. Keep on vaping and hopefully, their curiosity will get the best of them. If not.....well, at least they believe it's not some new fangled illicit drug delivery device!
Please note: I'm using the term "vice" very loosely for lack of a better term!
I learned a long time ago to disregard any negativity from others when I was doing something to better myself. It's wonderful to have the support of others, but sometimes we have to go at it alone. And you have a fantastic forum here to keep you positive about your choice, so you are not without a support system. When things get tough, you have a place to go and understanding people, many who have been in your situation, to bounce things off of.
Hang in there, and in a few months, this will seem like it was nothing but a cake walk!

...she even called vaping "Smoking for Rich People".

Now that strikes me as really odd. I see cig prices in CA have jumped to about $6.45 or so average, slightly higher than here in Texas (I was getting away with about $6.32 a pack if I bought cartons). I sat down and played with the numbers in a spreadsheet (am I a geek or what?) and figure I'm saving $7 to $8 a day and that's buying prefilled cartomizers and not refilling (yet, I'm agonna, that'll cut the cost even more).

I mean, she's kinda got it backward. Cigarettes have gotten really expensive. It's more "smoking is for rich people".

By the way, my mom is a retired RN/DoN/Hospital Admin. She was... ecstatic. She's been fretting about my smoking for years. She understands it's still a nicotine delivery widget but was just beside herself I was getting away from tobacco. Finally. After all these years.

(Heh, in my family, I am flat surrounded. RNs all over. Can't swing a cat without hitting a nurse in my family. My brother is an RN/DoN in LTC married to a RN. Me? I took one biology course and that lasted me the rest of my life thank-yew-veddy-much. :) )

Seriously. Especially after that last round of tax hikes. Texas jumped in right behind the feds and prices here doubled overnight. Before I stumbled into vaping, I was having to ration cigs out trying to cut cost. I was shelling out $70 a carton with around a two pack a day habit. Um... yikes...

When I was 48 I had to not only tell my mom and older brothers that I was vaping, but they now know I also do Vape meets. Lol. Now they all smoked, some in the past and some in the present. At first they thought I was nuts and very curious. Now they accept it and understand. It takes time. My mom kept asking me when I was going to quit and I finally told her never probably. Lol. I sent my mom this video to try to help her understand my thoughts. i love this video. HOW LONG ARE WE GOING TO DO THIS VAPING THING? - YouTube best of luck to you and keep vaping! Don't smoke analogs for 30 yrs like I did.
