401 usb charger

ok, stupid question. i put my 401 battery to charge and the led switches from green to red intermittently and has been that way for more than 3 hours. is it ever going to be solid green? do new batteries need a full 8 hour charge?

thanks, for the info. i have been waiting for the last 4 hours for the 403 battery to charge and i was getting a little worried. thanks again.
