I've read of some of y'all getting their atty stuck to the 4nine (I have the 26650) top cap...and that happened to me today...but after getting it off, I have a new, bigger problem. The top cap won't come off the mod! Any ideas?

It's in the freezer right now....but in the past i've been able to tighten down an atty tightly enough to back the top cap off along with the atty. That doesn't seem to be working for me anymore. The cap is so thin...it's hard to get a decent grip on it!

I really need to put some conductive anti-seize on the threads once I get it off...

Welp, I got her off...I doused the top cap in home hot water and threw her directly into the freezer. The water bonded to the top cap and froze on it...allowing to me to get enough leverage to unscrew the top cap.

Of course, the atty is now stuck to the top cap...but that I can deal with! Time to find some copper anti-seize!

Welp, after more messing with it a bit more...turns out i somehow stripped the 510 threads in the top cap (screwing too hard, likely). It looks like this mod is pretty much useless now. I can't get the top cap off...and the atty doesn't quite "snug" to it anymore.

I'm not sure I even want another copper mod now..def not another 4nine.

You know those (2) little holes in the Hybrid Cap................. Think about it. ;)

Lift on the Atty as you attempt to unscrew.

Over tightening tends to ruin things. Snugging usually works well on mods.

You may still be able to use the 4Nine with a different(Better) 510 Device.

Yeah, i know the holes are there....i don't have much that I can fit in there and turn it....the copper these is so soft too...(not that it quite matters anymore). The thing is...I never overtightened originally...the heat and expansion makes it so it "welds" itself to the top cap. At that point I can either have my atty off by itself or the atty + the top cap off. As of right now...it's empty and the top cap is stuck.

Toy? :?:

Edit: I got it off! Stuck 2 small allen keys in the holes and used a rod between them for leverage and got it off! Wonder if my watty will still fire?

Edit: Yup, the 510 threads are jacked. Is it possible to rethread it somehow? Do they sell replacement top caps anywhere?

Edit2: The delrin insulator was popped out ever so slightly...so I pushed it back it and it still fires! Still a spinnin' fool though, so I'm gonna try some replacement top caps...

Would this work: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FqpStMLTE6E

Anyone tried something like this? Maybe a regular old tap and t wrench would work...M7-0.5 Tap is it?

I wouldn't recommend the Permatex. It has an irritation warning, probably not safe for vaping and it's not going to be very conductive if at all. If your 4nine is an authentic you might be able to get a replacement, if it's a clone you're better off picking up a new one.

Not identical, but does fit.

$3.55 Hybrid Adapter w/ 510 Drip Tip for Stingray X Mod at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping

You could get another complete unit under $17 there also.

* If it Spins - there is no material left to Tap/re-thread - Sorry

Been looking and drooling at this mod for a little while now and I'm a little scared. The replacement info is very helpful just in case. I'm also a little concerned because they state on fasttech's description to not use a flat top battery with it. The only 26650 button tops I have found are the inferior battery brands. Any ideas, recommendations or experiences welcome!

Yeah...i just glued an atty on and made it a permanent hybrid. Kinda ghetto, but it works. I could probably still pry it off eventually if I'm sick of it, but I probably need a better solution.

If that top cap threads on my 4nine, that might work. I don't really like that the Stingray X hybrid cap doesn't have an insulator though. I think all the 26650 4nine clones are the same (not sure), but mine looks different from on the units on fasttech. Might have to take a risk at some point on one of these options.

If I could do it over again, I wouldn't have ordered the one from Fluid Vapes I don't think. The throw was a little long because I think that version is a bit longer than it should be. Getting the top cap off is easier now that I figured out a foolproof way to apply torque (rubber gloves don't even give enough in this application). In the end, I ended up grabbing a copper Mutant clone that I enjoy much more than the 4nine anyway, so there's that. The 4nine is mostly a backup now.

Flat tops work fine BTW...I've never had a problem with my MNKE IMR 26650s.

That's really good to know, thank you. Is the copper Mutant heavy? I have a SS Mutant and it is heavy enough to be a weapon. It is by far the heaviest of my 26650's. If the copper one is lighter I would love that. I replaced the spring with magnets and take it everywhere because I can sit it down and not worry.

Always good to help out a fellow Texan. :p

I actually don't have an SS/Brass Mutant to compare it to (yet, waiting for 101vape to ge tit back in stock ;) ) but it's not substantially heavy to me. It is heavier than the copper 4nine...but that's almost to be expected since it's a bit larger (longer) overall.

What you pay for in a bit of weight, you get rewarded with a more robust device. I personally think the Mutant has a better design with the bigger, more robust pieces and adjustable-on-the-fly switch being the main reasons. Also, it has a nice round 30mm diameter, which happens to be the size I have all my 26650 attys in. The 4nine is an odd 31mm in diameter...nothing sits flush on her. This may or may not be a factor for you, but I prefer to have my mods/attys sitting flush with no step up/step down.

i know it's a bit late, you can keep your threads in great working buttery smooth order with a dab of Mineral Oil......dab some on a q-tip and lightly go over all your threads......not only keeps the threads smooth but also keeps them clean and conductive.

True enough....but it's still quite hard to get enough torque applied with such a thin cap.
