4v homemade USB passthrough?

I want to make my own USB pt. However USB is at 5v. I have not been able to find a 3.7v regulator. Can I step down the volts using a resistor? If so how many ohms do I need?

Or what is another way to step down the voltage?

A diode (with high enough wattage rating) would work. About .7 volt drop typically. I think there's a thread about diodes vs resistors. On a PT you're not really worried about efficiency anyway.

However, if you dislike 5v for some reason, why not check into a voltage regulator and make a vv PT?
