Mine was hard plastic and I had good intentions wearing them to bed every night, but in the morning, I would find them out of my mouth and usually under my back. Those things did smell nasty, though.

The smell.... and after a while, the rubber started to get sticky like some of those soft rubbers do and also started to pick up all sorts of stuff like cat hair, etc. Blech.

You could've started out with this...
