First attempt at moving up in the world, from Provari with Carto, was a rba a year and a half ago - $25 and had it for one day when dropped with a Provari Mini and had to dig the existing threads out of the Provari. I know - it was cheap pressed on threads.

Second attempt was recently purchasing an American made Shotgun mod and a Japanese Vulcan rda - had it a week, rolled off a 30" high desktop onto a linoleum floor and stripped the threads off the rda. Getting by at home with wrapping the existing threads in aluminum foil for now. :>(

So now I just found an Igo-W for $11.95 that I am happy with - at least now I can afford to drop one once in a while :>)
IGO-W Plus - Kidney Puncher

The mods don't seem to be the problem, if the threads are good steel or such, because of the mass backing them up. The RDAs on the other hand are very thin where the threads are and are the first to go.

Now I have just shown that the myth is busted, "Cheap Chinese metal" is a bust because whether cheap or expensive, they break at the 510 connection just the same.

I now see why Provari is pushing ahead with their "P3" connector - time will tell if this is robust enough and whether it will catch on.

I think we all will be stuck with cheap crap until the connector issue is fixed - I for one will never again spend over $25 on an RDA for fear I may drop it...simply can't afford it.

Anybody have any stories such as this that have become frustrated with breaking your favorite RDA ?

I've dropped my mod a few times onto blacktop from waist height & once from above my head (I was stretching, it was in a pocket in my bag in my hand, yeah...), never had more than scratches. This was with a maraxus clone & igo-w, fuhattan & dark horse, and the big one was with a manhattan clone and my mutation X v2. Sounds like you just have some terrible luck with dropping things :(

But what's so special about the new P3 connector? Looks like a wider 510 :O Can't see it helping much :(

Ya, looks like terrible luck. Guess I'll just fall in line and only buy the Chinese Knockoffs :>)

"P.opus" below mentions 510 connector problems. I've also been told that the Chinese have recently made improvements to threading and plating in the last year, no more pressed on threads, due to many complaints. This is the only reason Provari is making a P3 connector - to make it more robust with more massive devices.

Anyway, thanks for reply - the only one this thread has received :>)

"p.opus
a. Threading. 510 Threading while still essentially a standard is not a great one. There are tons of stories of 510 connectors getting broken or bent or cross threaded. The Provari is a 510 only device. Ego Cone threading, IMHO solves a lot of the issues with 510 threading. It allows for better airflow and typically provides more surface area so that it is less likely to snap off. While you can get an eGo to 510 converter, there is no excuse why Provape has not modified their device to have eGo and 510 threads standard"
