I find that dripping is really messy with my 510, it leaks when sat on its side. So I am using carts, and I have tried the tea bag, but it has too weird of a taste. I like the poly fill, it hits better, and no taste unless it burns. Does anyone know where to pick up poly fill? I also want to know if this is normal, when using stuffed carts, is it normal that I have to carry around a tool to lift the stuffing up slightly when topping off? It seems I get 3 or 4 hits, then I have to top off with one or two drips and slightly lift the material up so it is flush. Otherwise I do not get a good hit, and it tastes off.

On the dripping thing... I've been only dripping my 510 since yesterday when I was doing a taste demo for someone and if I only drop 2 drops at a time it doesn't leak at all when it's on its side. Maybe you're overfilling when you try and drip?

As for the carts.. i tried the straw mod.. that's when I kept getting leaks so i took that out. And I have the same problem with the stuffing getting pushed down which isn't a problem for me since is wiggle the stuffing around every time I top off so that I get the air bubbles out and don't have to top off again so soon.

I tried doing the straw mod with an empty pen cartridge tube, and I cut it so it was about 1 mm below the end, so it was less than flush, and the tube still touched the atomizer and gave me a chemical taste. It also leaked, so I scraped that idea.

When I drip I only use 1 to 2 drips at a time.

As far as the stuffing, to wiggle it around, does that mean you need to carry a tool or a paperclip everywhere you go to adjust it?

Just kind of getting fed up with all the maintenance and tweeking.

I just got a 901 yesterday and Ive been just dripping, no cart stuffing and it works good, not great. It has much better flavor, good throat hit, but not as much vapor as the 510. Im starting to think though, it may be worth a little less vapor in trade of all the extra work with the 510.

Thoughts?

Anyone have any other models they suggest for good flavor, lots of vapor and low maintenance?

P.S. I have a prodigy on order, hopefully will get it soon. Order # 17132

I have modified all of my carts with own version of the straw mod. If you fill the cart too full it will leak. If you fill it just right it will work perfectly and you will be able to vape 75% of the liquid before refilling. The straw evacuates the air from the cart and allows a lot more vaping than without it. It's the only way to fly!

I use quetip shafts for my cart mod - they are 11/16ths long and avoid the atomizer - put on the side of the cart opening - never any sign (taste or melting) of contact - (probably would contact the atty if it were in the middle), diagonal cut toward center. An empty pen cartridge may be too big but haven't checked that. Mine don't leak when put horizontal (or vertical) - except for one loose fitting 'flat tip' cart I have. I cut an 1/8 inch off the filler and tamp it down a bit on top - take a pin and tuck it around the tube. And it seems to hold that position well. It takes about 6 to 8 drops in a top off vs. 2 or 3 without it. I put a drops in the filler, then 2 on the atty and then back to the filler and watch the air bubble come up the tube ;-)

Mikie - I drip a 510, but don't have any leakage. Maybe your e-juice is too thin. I use Johnson Creek PG (one of the thinnest), but I mix it 50/50 with Glycerin for better vapor output. That makes it a lot thicker, which might be the difference. Also, I usually only drip one drop at a time, giving me 6-8 puffs before another drop. It's a hassle, but it keeps the atomizer at peak performance.

Stick with things, it takes a while to sort out all the bugs. But it's worth it.

Good luck!

Thanx to the wizard.....Try the 901 cartridge/Tips on the 510. I am using the 901 whistle style for a day and a half on my 510 manual batts and atty's:
Finding altered draw; a bit stiffer and slightly less dense vapor production....yet increased depth of flavors. NO LEAKING and this was a nagging problem with the 510 carts..still and if you over drip or top off too much u may get some liquid on your tongue:p and possible leak from batt line. NO BURNING FIBRES: is the filler the same as 510 cart? try it! Make sure you press the 901 tip firmly onto atty it is a tad tight but has clicked in nicely on all my 510 attys<generic and redscorpion included.

Good luck

You guys are all great, I will try all of your suggestions. I have made up my mind that it is beyond the point of return. Ive spent way too much money to just give up, so I am determined to make this work. I have recently as of this weekend, gained more of my taste and smell senses back, (due to analog smoking damage) and it is just enough to keep me going. I am happy I have found this great place to get advice, and learn so much. Thanks again guys, I really appreciate it.

Does anyone know where to pick up poly fill?

You can pick up polyfill at craft stores. Just make sure there are no added chemicals.

Here's another thought. Before switching to e-cigs I was making my own analogs. I'd buy pre-made filtered tubes online for $1.80 for a carton of 200. You could cut out the polyfill filter, cut the filter in half for your e-cig. You'd have 400 carts for less than a half-cent apiece and you're guaranteed no harmful additives.

straw mod is amazing turbo charge for carts(when done correctly) first time I tried it I got nothing but last week I tried again and it's been running like a top fuel dragster. Double holed coffee stirrer is best, cut it low enough to miss the atty and drag a little polyfill over the top of the straw. When I go to top off I can get 7-10 drops hassle free. Makes for a lot less topping off.

It certainly is impressive. I have the quetip shafts in mine but intend to try the doublebarrel carborator (coffee stirrer) - none in house - one doesn't stir black coffee :) But... I noticed that even when you fill with the mod and you get a semi bubble off the face of the cart (not a superdome) you can almost go 90 degrees vertical with that (with the mod on top and it helps the airflow as you continue to add drops. It's not necessary of course - just an observation.

How many hits do you get off one or two drops on your atty? If you overvape it, will you burn out the atomizer? When dripping, do you still put a cart on for a mouthpiece (presumably an empty one)?

The puffs per drop stat is somewhere in the stickies. Seems like a cig a drop or something. As far as mouthpiece after dripping - replacing it is normal. Vaping without it is called 'tailpiping' - but watch yourself ;-) Don't fall for that banana in the tailpipe... (best scene in Bev.Hills Cop1)
