Hey everyone I have been a vaper for about a month now. I bought a 510 and the atomizer lasted a week and a half. The second and third attys averaged a week each. I love vaping but parts cost is killing me. I let the attys drip dry every night and never over fill my carts. I make sure once my atty warms up I let it rest. Can anyone offer any of their infinite wisdom on this situation. I offer a friend for life, since I wont die of smoking analogs. :p

You should be getting much longer atty life, yes. But, even if you did get some duds (I'm not convinced your attys are *really* dead), how are "parts costs killing" you? If you only got a week out of a 510 (pretty much unheard of) that would still be about $12 per week. If you're a moderate to heavy vapor, figure 20 mls of e-liquid per week for (over-priced for emphasis) another $12 per week. That's $24 a week or about 2 1/2 packs of cigarettes here in NY which wouldn't get me anywhere near a week's worth.

You're frustrated and rightfully so, but the cost of vaping isn't killing you... unless you were a VERY light smoker, to the tune of about 3 cigs a day or so.

Get out the millimeter and check your dead attys. If the resistance is greater than 3 ohm or infinite, you are right they are dead, if not, the atty is not your problem.

I find that the amount of vape I get from my 810 is more dependent on my technique more than anything. A dry/unprimed atty shows the same symptoms as a flooded atty, so it makes it hard to hit the sweet spot for good vape.

That you dry them out each night, could mean they are not getting a good prime, and they are running dry and hot. Either burning them out or maybe burning a dry layer of crap on them.

If you already figured that out, maybe you are over compensating and flooding them.

Either way the multi-meter is going to tell you really what is going on.

The attys are not heating anymore. I can hold the battery on all day they wont heat up. Cost of an atty at 8-12 bucks plus 4-6 to get them to my house adds up. When most are saying the atty last them 2 weeks to a month there is a big gap. The vapor starts strong with a new atty but over a week seems to fade, and the atty gets hot quicker as well(maybe two puffs) before no mas.

Your mom said not to say...
I think that you must be using it wrong or doing something wrong. I have not had to replace a single atomizer on the 510 yet and I have been using it for a good month without even so much as cleaning them.

Atomizers are consumables so you really should be replacing them about every other month to keep them performing at there top spec. Just as the oil filter needs to be changed in your automobiles to keep them running well. If you break down the cost compared to cigarettes you still pay less getting a new atomizer every 60 days. I don't know why your currently having issues, but I think once you get it figured out you will find that they last much longer than a week or two.

Ive been using the same 510 atty for almost 3 weeks now... the only problem ive had is when the manual button got held down accidently in my pocket for an indefinite period of time (i would not recomend this btw since it got HOT) and burned out otherwise its been smooth sailing, the GF has had hers about the same amount of time with no problems...

You're running your atty's WAY TOO DRY, that's why they are burning out so quickly. I've had a 510 since 7/2/09 and I still have the original fully functioning atomizer(that's almost 4 months). Don't worry about overfilling; overfilling(flooding) won't kill your atty(running it too dry will). Do the absolute opposite of what you're currently doing. Fill carts completely. Don't clean(drip dry) your atty's unless they get clogged. I sometimes go for weeks at a time between blowing out an atomizer. The rule of thumb seems to be, at least for me and several others I've spoke to, the less "maintenance" you do on your atty's , the longer they work. But definitely make sure the atty's are kept as moist as possible(without flooding) at all times. Hope that helps.

Sounds like possibly the juice you are using. I use a 401, and my attys generally last about a month or more depending on fluid. I have similar issues with the vapor fading and heat, but over a longer period of time. But I've found that darker fluids cause this to happen much faster than lighter colored fluids. I mix my own using Bickfords flavors, and cola (which is almost black) will kill my atty in two weeks, whereas rum or pineapple (clear) will allow the atty to last almost two months before a serious drop-off.

My theory is that whatever causes the coloring is leaving deposits not only on the coil, but in the wick itself, so that further fluid is unable to wick properly. After using a darker fluid, I've tried doing a burn-off with a manual battery, and I can see the coil getting red hot, but no Vapor. It just affirms that some how the wick is getting clogged, and no amount of flushing, cleaning, or soaking seems to fix it..

Anyhow, again if you are using a darker colored flavor, that could be it.
