510 lacking flavor?

Started vaping with the V4L VK and cartomizers. Still use and love them, BTW.

But I've seen so many folks recommend the 510s for new vapers so I sprung for a starter set. Washed the atty out well to get rid of the primer and let dry. Primed the atty with juice. Tried the PTB mod and direct dripping...

Getting lots and lots of lovely vapor, but little to no flavor. I know it's not the juice since I'm using the same stuff that I use in the cartos with great results.

What am I missing?

I think it's because the 510 atty's run hotter than most. I'm use to it. I also mostly vape tobacco flavors. I have a couple 901 atty's for the fruity stuff and lighter flavored juice and that brings out the flavor a bit more.
I still prefer my 510. That's subject to change when my carto's arrive.

Dudeman's right. The stronger flavors are enhanced by the warmer attys. Try some of the soft tip V4L cartos when they make them in the tobacco flavors.

I have some tobacco flavors that I can hardly taste when I put them in a blank cartomizer or run on a 901 or 801, yet they come alive in the 510. And I have fruit/berry flavors that are lessened by the warmer running 510 - and I vape those in cartos or the 801 V3 Joye Stick.

This is just a matter of how certain flavors respond to temperature rather than any model of ecig. You just have to find what flavors you like the most and have the equipment that best suits it.

Thanks guys.

Got a sample of TV Atomic Cinnacide coming from someone on forum. I know it's a strong flavor and will try a side by side (have been reserving one of my 510 attys for it. :) )

I haven't had that one - heard a lot about it though ;-) I know it can run a bit hot... In my experience the tobacco flavors - my Habana Reserve from TW, Janty's 555, TW's French Pipe and Cigar and some of the Kona coffee flavors are strong but not necessarily hot flavors. What I did is put those flavors in blank cartos in a side by side. Should be interesting nonetheless.

This is my favorite subject on ECF, and I don't see it addressed enough (or I'm missing those posts !) Lack of flavor is my pet peeve with my 510 (which is my only pv), and I've been determined to find an answer.

Kent C, I trust your advice and thank you for all the info you've shared on this forum. Are you saying that the only real solution is to have different pv's available for different types of flavors ? If that's the case, I've gotta get a second pv right away...I'm tired of not being able to fully appreciate the flavors !

I drew the same conclusion coming from the other direction 510 to Carto. And yes I started to taste juices that I thought were bland and tasteless for the very first time. I mix a small amount (10%) VG to up the vapor production and went up a level in nic and could not be happier. Even with the VG diluting the flavor in the mix it is way stronger than I get in my 510. No use for high volt mods any more because the flavor starts dropping off again. Just contented using way less juice and tasting every drop!!

Instead of getting a different PV just buy a $2.49 adapter (510 to 901) and a 901 atty. That way you can still use all your 510 stuff but have a cooler atty for the more delicate juice flavors.

The other thing that helps is highping's http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/tips-tricks/70962-my-simple-cart-mod.html

Well the AC from TV will be nice in your 510. That stuff is awesome and if it looses flavor on the hotter 510 attie then im happy im not vaping AC on cooler attie. That stuff is so yummy but at the same time i swear it burns my toung just like fireball....LOL

JMO after the atties get broke in i think the fruity and special flavors taste ok. Bluberry Cheese Cake and Strawberry taste great on the 510

Ok. I guess I don't understand the carto thing. It's not something that can be adapted to the 510, right ? It's for a completely different pv, like the 808, correct ?

  • The 510 atty has a "break-in" time - it varies, but usually 250 puffs seems average. this may vary from a few days to a week depending on usage.
  • 510 attys tend to burn quite a bit hotter. ModMakers® will be quick to provide references to support reasons to convert. While I have NO conflict with mod users, the reason I don't carry one (in public) always comes down to a comment by one of my customers..."that looks like a fun thing to have to explain to the arresting officer..."
  • Straw modifications will increase vapor, but not necessarily flavor strength. I'd recommend CYO kits and base liquids. Everyone's taste is different. I went through dozens of "Marlboro" flavors until I created my own golden recipe and it vapes differently between my 901, 510, 302 and cigar.
As a supplier, I've donated dozens of 510 and 302 attys to ModMakers for research. While the 302s are easily adapted to making mods, the 510 attys are generally torn apart looking for the Holy Grail of refitting them for longer life and lower temps.

Kent, we've discussed this before - the heat from the 510 does change flavors a bit but the lower temp addys tend to be weaker - yes? Methinks it's more a matter of what you desire most rather than which one is "best"

Considering the long life of a 510 and generous vapor, I've found that carrying a few extra batts and attys allow me to swap between them while in public to keep them cool during heavy vaping periods.

I take this to mean that the combo mentioned above may cause a little more attention than my plain-jane 510 does now.

Just to clarify, I'm happy with all aspects of my 510, except the flavor. I'm especially happy with the vapor production.

I like this idea its simple but sounds perfect.
I do love my 510 btw :) But Id also like to see any 'difference' because, well, I am gadget woman lol.
This works well you find? (the 510 -->901 adapter + 901 atty I mean)

I wish I could take what I like from each of them and make one perfect atty! LOL They both have their pros and cons but I like the flavor of the 901 better, especially with some of the dairy-type juices.

I know many really love the 808 cartos but I wasted so much juice trying to get the filling part right that I gave up.
