The 510 connector should give you plenty of options. It's very popular. Myself, I've made the switch to cartomizers for full flavor and performance. But some folks like atomizers for the same reasons. You will likely spend some time and money finding just what's right for you. Just don't get discouraged if vaping isn't everything you'd hoped it would be right from the start. Best wishes!

I think that someone new will be happier with cartomizers. An atty with a cartridge is prone to leaking. A cartomizer is simpler to use.

I know it's a waste of time but, I'll tell you to have the money ready for at least an eGo. Those little batteries going out every couple hours will drive you crazy after a couple days. Few people stay with them.

Joye 510 slim ecigs are what got me off regular stinkies. However, I suggest getting a riva or ego kit from E-Liquid and Electronic Cigarette Shop - Category Listings. The ego and riva batteries will last you a lot longer and you won't have to be constantly charging batteries. The ego comes in 510 threads and the riba comes in 510 or 901 threads. Go with the 510's because you will have more available to you along the lines of goodies that you can get for your batteries without having to buy adapters. While your there and you choose to go with one of these kits, I also suggest getting a box or 2 of Boge cartomizers and a drip tip. When buying cartomizers, the rule of thumb is, the lower the ohm rating the hotter they burn. So if you want to go with a warmer vapor and more of it, you want to look at the ones that are under 2.8ohm. 2.8ohm and higher are a cooler vape, less vapor, and more flavor but please don't get me wrong, the low resistance still provides plenty of flavor. Experiment with the different Boge cartos...maybe a box of each to test out.

They offer a coupon code, october20, for 20% off your total order. Shipping is $3 or there abouts.

I can manage for the time being. I'm ordering the portable charger as well.
I imagine eventually I'll switch, but for now I'm.. trying to trick myself into believing it's a real cigarette I suppose. Trying to make the transition as easy as possible so I'm less likely to fall back on analogs.
I guess the problem for me stems from the fact that I want to quit smoking, but I don't want to quit nicotine - at least not yet. The closer something resembles actual smoking, the better off I am for now.

Reading that last part back sounds a little irrational, but then again, if I were completely rational, I wouldn't have started smoking in the first place...

I have always used devices with a native 510 connection because 510 stuff seems to be the most common and readily available. I have a couple of adapters (which you can usually get for $3 or less) if I want to use something else.

I am a cartomizer man. As mentioned above, it is just the most simple way for me to vape. I usually fill up a cartomizer, let it sit for five minutes, slap a drip tip on the end, and vape away. When it gets dry, I pop off the drip tip and fill it up again. I repeat this until it stops performing to my liking. Then, I toss it and unwrap a new one. They always last at least a few days and sometimes make it a week or two. Occasionally, I'll get a dud, but that happens with atomizers too. My favorite part is the price. I buy Boge Cartomizers from Liberty Flights. I get 5 of them for about $8. That is about the same price as one quality atomizer. Atomizers are supposed to last much, much longer than cartomizers. I have had so many problems with atomizers (cleaning out the primer, burning them out, dead on arrival) that I prefer to avoid them all together. Some people LOVE them. I don't. Some people claim that direct dripping is the only way to get good flavor is to direct drip into an atomizer. If I find a juice I like, it tastes great to me out of a cartomizer.

Everyone above had great advice. Remember, your favorite vape will be your own. It is a personal thing. You are smart to be soliciting info from ECF. This is a great source to help you avoid paying too much for stuff you won't like. There will still be some trial and error. It is worth it, though! Good luck on your foray into the world of vapor. Welcome to the forums.

As I said previously, I don't expect you to believe me but, imagine you're really craving. When you reach for that ecig really needing that hit and the battery's dead. Now imagine that happening 8 to 10 times a day. That's what those little batteries were like for me. It's not easier to switch with them, it's harder.

I can't talk you out of it. Just have some money ready for something else.

no one could have told me differently either when I started...
...but...
it took me 2-3 weeks until I got an eGo kit

I've been ok with mine so far;) Though I'm using two batteries, a PCC, and a passthrough. It doesn't bother me much at all though I will likely pick up an eGo at some point as well.

Ive only been off of analogs since the 4th of July. I have a whole ziplock bag full of cig-style batts! I was told early on by a friend that that wasnt gonna last, but I was stubborn!! I kept chasing good money after bad, trying to make it work for me!! I finally caved!! I even went the 'other way' and bought some great fire-power, epowers, bottom feeder, but where I am RIGHT NOW? Happilly holding onto my Riva 1100!! Its where Im at!! LOVE IT! Lasts a good part of the day, RELIABLE, great vape, etc!! You may have to do what I did, its ok! It did work for me starting that way!! just dont beome stubborn like I did and waste a lot of $$$!

or Riva!!!!!!

Or a Riva. I guess I use the term "eGo" to mean any device of that size that has a 510 thread.

I have both a Janty eGo and a No-Name eGo as well as two Riva's. They all work about the same.

Only thing I don't like about the Riva's is the Gold trim. I don't like Gold unless it is real.

I've been vaping since feb. and I am still a joye 510 girl. my batteries last all day...... I am a chain vapor (I was a chain smoker too) so I carry and vape on 3 PVs all day so I don't overheat them. and that makes the batteries last 3 times as long, sorta :) I charge them at night and they aren't usually completely run down when I do.

510 is a good start and I second Mixologist in that you should stick with a Joye 510. Opt for the manual battery. When you get tired of it, you'll have a good atty for connecting to many of the mods out there. Many (most) have 510 connectors. The 510 is a good tried and true atomizer.

If I were to toss all of my gear (and I got a lot) I'd keep the 510 stuff.

Heaven-Gifts.com is a good Chinese source for 510s.

I myself have thought the same way as you when I was going to start ecigs. I even wanted a white ecig with a amber light on the tip to really resemble an analog cig. Well I did purchase the regular 510 and within 2 weeks I had ordered an ego. For me getting the 510 was a waste of money to start with. If I were you, I'd get a 510 riva se that operates at 3.7v compared to egos and regular 510 ecigs where the volts are slightly less. It does make a difference. Then you can use low resistance atomizers and cartomizers and enjoy clouds of vapor with a nice simulated analog throat hit. I promise you'll thank me if you went with the rivas from LF
