Alright, I have a basic Idea on how to make the passthrough... but I was wondering how simple it really is...

Because in my non experienced mind... pop out battery use existing wires connect usb wire hot glue wire in place drill hole in ash cap call it good.

or do I also have to replace the wires running to the switch?

Wires dont run to the switch they run to a circuit board. Not sure how it would handle 5 volts to it. Circuit board is also battery protection along with a mosfet so the little switch doesnt fry. Then you have another mosfet to allow the unit to charge. It is also very easy to knock the wires off while taking the battery apart you have to be really careful. So as far as making a dead 510 battery a PT it is not really simple. Much easier to get you a 3 amp momentary switch ( then no need for a mosfet) some sorta bigger tube to mount it in ( because 3 amp switches are to big to fit in a 510 tube) A 510 battery side connector and the thickest USB cable you can find.

If you want rip one apart go for it. 5 volt ones with a small switch are just a USB cable tube circuit board with a mosfet maybe a resistor and a tactile switch. At least thats how it should be made. Tactile switches cant handle the amps we require so they really if done right need the mosfet to take the excessive load off the switch. IF wired up directly you need a switch that is rated around 3 amps if you want it to last.
