A pair of 10x50 binoculars will show the moons to. My 20x80's do a nice job. But the best view is with my 10" dob. I need to get it out and view more, cooler weather is coming and makes it more enjoyable.

Well the basic of Tipler's view takes the idea from quantum physics that everything is information, he posits that life becomes infinite, and therefor the universe itself creates it's own "God". But it's not the same kind of God that western religion would describe, but basically a distributed being of infinite knowledge.

If you remember Carl Sagan's concept that "Life is the universe trying to understand itself"- Tipler's ideas have even more impact.

I haven't followed Tipler a lot since I read that book, so I'm not sure what he thinks of string theory. I would be surprised if he wasn't a string theorist having trashed possible GUTs.

Well i suppose with his views could be tied into the quantum theory of gravity if it could be proved..and although i love the idea of string theory and superstirng theory i have net seen or read of any definative evidence of it being solved..except when "the" additional "11th demension" is added...It really seems the only logical way possible for things such as singularities and parallel universe's to exist but noone has proven its existence yet..

Multi-dimensional universe seems probable and logical..and most likely exists..its just were too stupid to understand

I think Tipler might have some intersting theories but im going to have to read this book to make a final decision

A grand unified theory is also very probable but without an increase in understanding well...we just wont be able to connect the dots between the different disciplines...so to speak lol..

Right. I was speaking to the general state of GUT at the time that string theory started to gain steam.

Its funny how some people refuse to believe the depth of our universe and how small we truly are in the scheme of things! I liked how Halle explained the world of the water flea and how it related to our own understanding of the universe..We are just trapped in a little tank called earth and we cannot understand the full functionality of the physics at work in the universe..Some get a glimpse of a higher understanding but its not enough to explain the universe we live in..A multiverse could easily explain the big bang, singularities, black holes, worm holes(possibility of), white holes(possibility of). The physics of a black hole point in the direction of a white hole being absolutely necessary...Unless somehow allllll that matter is somehow turned into x-rays and gamma rays but i find that somewhat hard to believe. To me it seems much more probable that the black hole is a ripple or connection of some sort between two dimensions or universe's...Possibly opposites..which is why we never see white holes..perhaps they are only possible in another dimensions..Or it could be governed by similar physics where high matter areas go to low mater areas...Which is exactly what our universe seems to be doing at the present time..Perhaps a black hole's contents gets trapped in between two universe's where other black holes also dump their contents until it gets to the point where it cannot hold anymore matter and creates a big bang in another universe or even our same universe...

Gravity is maybe one way to get two dimensions to touch each other..One of the most basic laws of physics, gravity, and we dont even fully understand how it works..what a bummer! perhaps the graviton...or perhaps not...superstring theory postulates the existence of the graviton, no?
