I am currently using an Ego as well as an Ego passthrough and I love it, but I've been wanting to try a 5V for a while. I mostly vape at home and in the car, so I really like using a passthrough. I was looking for suggestions on a good inexpensive 5V passthrough ad well as a good wall adapter (I don't think my Ego travel charger will work). I'm hoping for more TH as well as more flavor out of my (usually sweet) juices in the 5V and was looking for opinions on 5V passthroughs. Thanks in advance!

The key to a 5volt PTs is not to use them plugged into your computer USB or any other USB port that is not at least 2 amps.

5 volt 510 and 306 Pass Thru

Black Delrin 5 volt 510 Passthrough

2 amp AC to USB Adapter, ideal for Passthroughs

Good suggestions.

I would also suggest if you decide you want the portablity of one of the best 5 volt models on the market that also comes with a lifetime warranty, then look at the 5 volt GLV 2:

GLV-2 Electronic Cigarette [GLV-2] - $120.00 : Electronic Cigarettes and E-Liquid - Great Lakes Vapor

Assuming 100% efficiency:
A 2.5 ohm carto at 5V = 2 amps
If you're using a 1.5 ohm carto, you're pulling 3.3 amps. For this amount of current you'll need a linear power supply. You can find them online at Digi-Key, Allied Electronics, or Mouser.
Or, you can tap off your computer's power supply. Make up a female USB port wired right off one of your 4-pin connectors. Perhaps paint a big red circle slash around it on the case although it won't matter if you plug any other 5v power consuming device into it. A device will only pull as much current from any power supply as it needs.

DO NOT use your USB port on your computer for vaping on a 5v PT! There have been many posts on here where the user damaged their computer due to the higher power requirements. Always use a 5v/2 amp USB to AC adapter.

Well, to be fair... he didn't say to use the computer's USB port... he said to use a 4 pin connector from the PSU rigged with a USB connector specifically for vaping.

But, why go to all that trouble? A "wall wart" is about $5.00-$10.00 or so and you won't mess up your computer. And it can plug in anywhere there is a AC outlet (like by the sofa) for vaping. Get the wall wart with at least 2.0 amps. 3.0+ amps is better (like foxfur said above... 3.3 amps for DC's)

That's true. But could it still cause a problem? And your point is on the mark. Much easier to get an adapter.

I don't know. I suppose it would depend on the PSU and the PT. My DIY PT sure must have a lot of button bounce in it. And why stress the PSU with an On-Off load like that? So I guess we both agree.... no USB ports, and we don't suggest direct PSU either...even if it should handle it. People have too many problems with under-powered PSUs on their computers anyway.

So, foxfur, it's clever. But definitely a do-at-your-own-risk job, IMO.

I recently picked up one of these-USB Variable Voltage Passthrough along with the wall adapter mentioned above (Hoosier, 2 amp). The passthrough is listed at 3.2. 3.7. and 4.2 volts on the website, but the one I received has a fourth setting which is ~4.9-5.0 volts. It is working well so far and I find myself using the 3.7 setting more as it is producing the best flavor for me. Cheers.
