So I've been gathering bits for a diy mod for a while now. A recent decision in design will allow me the room for one of madvapes 5v regulators. Do I need a higher voltage to regulate down to 5v or will the voltage step up? I only have room for a 18350. I'm not too worried about battery life as my ego battery lasts me all work day. Am I better off just sticking with the battery voltage? Also, single battery vv, how does that work? I see the provari is single battery.

The Provari, Ego booster, Lavatube etc use a booster circuit, much different to a regulator. There's a lot more to it than a component that costs a few cents.

You can get a 5v battery which is really 4.8v as it's 4 x 1.2v cells stacked and needs it's own charger, but i would much rather just do the 2 x batts and regulate the voltage down with some decent AW batteries which i know can handle the amperage drain properly.
