Congratulations! Sounds like you were motivated by the big jump in Federal tobacco tax that occurred about that time? I'm just a few days behind you and most certainly was:D

I was! I bought an njoy Pro for $60 instead of 2 cartons of analogs as that tax increase was taking effect. It was a motivator, but I was really intrigued by the ecig technology. I had long wanted to quit and couldn't. It all worked out. In that time, I would have spent $18,720.00 on analogs. I may have spent $5000.00 on vaping, but I doubt if it has been that much.
Tax collectors be damned.

We were discouraged from even trying ecigs then due to my sister beta testing one before it was even on the market. Need to write her to refresh my memory of what brand but do remember it was well before the wife and I quit. Live in the state with the third lowest state tax so I estimate my carton a week plus my wife's PAD add up to well north of 20 grand!

Wow, Dani!!!!!!!!!! You are among the very elite--those who actually did quit with the dinosaur equipment! I really tried to do it back then, but it wasn't enough for me. I saw the potential, but it wasn't enough to get me free. Almost two years ago, I finally managed to make it work, YAY!!!!!!

Congratulations on SIX YEARS--YOU ROCK!!!!!!!!!

Congratulations to us!
I'm curious since we joined ECF about the same time. I started vaping 4/21/09. How did you hear about vaping? I heard from my nonsmoking friends about an segment on NPR. We were well ahead of the mainstream advertising.

I actually heard about vaping from a student of mine (I'm a college professor). He had one (wanted to not have to leave the bar on cold nights). It looked interesting and I had tried quitting so many times over 40+ years that I was willing to try anything. It worked ! My student never quit smoking, but I did.

Congrats Dani B!

I'm just a month behind you. There's not a lot of us '09ers still around, right? Many have <cough> "moved on". =)

I don't know how you feel about it, but for me, ONE year without smoking was the BIG deal. The rest of them just kind of followed.

You get special congrats considering what we had to contend with back in the day. Remember 801 attys that leaked like a sieve? The first cig-a-likes (the RN 40 something or other?) that we charged for 4 hours and vaped for 1/2 hour? Remember when the manual 510 battery came out? 'Twas a revelation... lol

Congrats again my fellow '09er and fellow NYer! Many happy and healthy years to you...

LOL - the manual 510 was revolutionary! Today it is so easy compared to what we dealt with in the beginning (OMG I sound like my mother !).

Never said it was easy! But I was determined. Every once in a while I pull out an old piece of equipment and use it (for about 2 minutes, lol) just to remind myself how much we have progressed. I usually do that when I am getting frustrated with my current stuff - reminds me that it could be worse!

Just realized that I have been smoke free for 6 years. Wow. Best thing I have ever done. I went from smoking 2+ pad to quitting instantly. Started with 24 mg (yes, it was necessary with the inefficient systems that were around in 2009 lol) to now using 0 - 3 mg depending on what I feel like.

Happy anniversary to me !

Hooray!!!!! I love to read about milestones like this. Way to go!!!
