I have never successfully made a diy juice that I considered worthy of vaping yet... the last time I bought TFA flavors, I bought 30ml sizes, they were on clearance (months ago).

Now I'm looking for some specific flavors, because I have a recipe in mind done by someone else (Thanks Jonhall) and I keep seeing 6ml bottles, 8ml bottles and 10ml bottles. and some of the 10ml bottles are $3 and $4 each.....I only paid $3 for the 30ml bottles last time.

Seems like 6/8ml just wouldnt go very far....... when making 30ml bottles of diy juice, how much flavoring on average do you use?
again, I know to some of you this is a stupid question...I'm completely new and inexperienced at diy, but I've been vaping $27/30ml juice and its getting old really fast........ I need to start saving a little on the juice if possible, plus I really want to try and cater something to my liking, it was hard to find a juice I always like to pick up and vape.

Any advice would be appreciated. and any links to inexpensive flavor vendors too. :D

With most TFA flavors, the most I use is 10%, so an 8ml bottle is enough to make an 80ml batch. The small bottles are great for making test batches until you find a flavor combination you really like. I get the small bottles from Wizard Labs to try out, then order direct from TFA once I find something I want to make in larger quantities. Good luck finding a satisfying DIY liquid - the savings are huge!

Hey, not a stupid question at all. Depending on what kind of end result you are looking for - multi flavor liquids aren't easy to start with - it can take some work to sort out your DIY quest. Can you give us some insight into what you are trying to create?

I'm new at this too and I try to find sales on 10 ml sizes. You can always go back for more while you are trying to nail down a recipe. The way I look at it there's no point in going for 30 ml and larger sizes on anything I haven't tried yet. That would only be a waste anyway if you don't like it. At all.

Check in here often for DIY suppliers running sales and specials: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/pay-forward-pif/418767-deals-steals.html

Head to the last page in that thread and work it backward until you start seeing stale dated sales info.

What brands are you looking for?

ETA: Percentage wise... there's a lot of variability to that, depending on the brand and the flavor. I'm not pushing the envelope looking to create intense flavor levels so my total percents seldom go above 10%. But that's me.

I use those sample sizes the first time around - often I can tell by the smell if I'm going to like it or not. Then I buy larger sizes of the ones I'm going to use a lot of. Sometimes, I make the tester and it's good, so I mix up the rest and use it, and I really don't want it again, even though that juice wasn't bad. Some just wear on you after a few mls.

I am new to all of this too but am going for the smaller bottles for now. I have already found 4 or 5 that I do not like... each vendor may have Mt Dooo but each one will taste different and some will have a different usage rate for your taste. With the smaller bottles I can weed out the ones that I don't like cheaper. Sure, 30 ml @ $10 is cheaper per ml than 10 ml @$5 but if something you don't like then I would rather lose $5 than $10. Once I find the ones I like, then I will go for larger sizes

I am starting out making strictly single flavor juices. Getting to know each flavor and finding how strong I like them to taste (and how much to use) is step one for me. From there, the next step is to mix two of my already prepared single flavor juices with each other to learn 1.) if they are even compatible for my tastes, and 2.) how varying the relative proportions of each affects the final product.

This is probably the slowest way to go about it, but I don't think I will ever end up with a full bottle of something I cannot use.

I'm pretty new to DIY still but all I have used is the 8ml sample sizes. Out of the 40-50 flavors I have there a 4 that I am going to buy big bottles of next go around. Learn play and have fun with the small sizes and then buy wholesale form TFA when you know what you love and what you are going to use.

I don't like fruit vapes (apple, pear, peach, strawberry, etc). I like tobacco and I'm in love with castle long, which is bourbon/coconut/vanilla/almond/brown sugar...... thats what I want to make ultimately.

You like tobacco yet your beloved contains no tobacco which seems pretty ironic.

Some flavors I buy 6-10ml as they rarely if ever get used and yet I want (even if I don't need) everything. Others I only buy in 60-120ml because it's much cheaper for flavors I use often. There are some that only come in 30ml and I can always buy more so that's plenty. Then for primary flavors like Strawberry, Blueberry, Raspberry, Peach, Sweetener and Sweet cream I load up. Used to buy strictly 8ml from WL but storing hundreds of small vials it got a bit out of hand. I had to stock up on 5-6 small vials of certain things or I would run out. And so I ended up with 300+ vials taking up my whole desk. When you make everything in 120-500ml batches you can save a fortune buying in bulk.

So for example all those castle long flavors you could buy TFA in 30ml for under $6 per flavor. That would be $30 for 150ml of flavor if you used 20% of each you could make approximately 700-800ml of juice. Your final cost might be around $.07-12/ml which is cheaper then any good retail juice you could ever buy. Even if you bought all IW or FA the end cost would probably average near the same. Some flavors you use much less and pay more while others cost less but you use more. The key to savings is buying bulk but whatever you can't use is money wasted. So your better off starting with sample sizes until you know what to buy in bulk.

I do like tobacco's, never said I vaped them exclusively. What I dont like are fruit vapes, just not my thing.

I did vape a Bourbon house brand today that was actually not too bad.... a little sweet which I liked, and it had sit in the stash for a few weeks and developed into something I could easily see myself vaping on the regular. New it was a bit overwhelming alcoholy (is that a word?) steeping did it justice.

Being a complete beginner at diy juices (I'd say I'm even whatever comes before beginner) I don't know if diy is for me.... its like cooking, just because I can go to the store and buy the ingredients, I know I can't cook as well as my wife, or a top chef.... But I am willing to try. :D
