Hi everyone! So I just got done mocking up the functional parts of my future 510 mod. I used 2 three volt batteries in series and moved the atomiser from my regular battery over to my "bigger is better" experiment. It tasted incredibly burnt on a one second puff. I moved it back over to a regular battery and it tastes fine. Is this just too much voltage? I've seen other vaping on 6v and they seem to be loving it. What could I be doing wrong?

BTW: The liquid is 36mg unflavored cut down to 18mg with glycerine and loranne cofee flavor.

Short answer..yes. A 510 has low resistance (usually around 2.3 ohms) and at 6v is pulling an insane 15w+ of power. By contrast an 801 (typically 3.5 ohm) at 6v which is still quite high is only pulling 10w.

I find that anything over about 8w of power burns the juice too quickly. You can compensate with ever shorter drags and keeping the atty soaked at all times but it becomes a game of diminishing returns.

If you use two CR123A batteries, you're vaping at quite a bit higher than 6v. More like 7.2v on a good charge.

I personally believe the 510 performs better at around 5v, as far as flavor is concerned.

Yep. Coincidently, I just measured my Tenergy rcr123 3v 900mAh batteries after I pulled 'em from the charger. Both were at 3.8 volts. Even the batteries with half a day of use I put into the charger, were reading 3.3 volts. Fnormal will need to go with a resistor in order to keep that voltage in check.

Thanks everybody,

opus- the box it just a project box from radio shack. I bought it in the store so i'm not sure about a link to it. The switch is from them too.

angus and butch- the two batteries were just a temporary solution to my itch for a 6v. They are dead now (non rechargable). They were just two camera batteries I picked up at radio shack. They didn't have any cr123's . Where is a good place to pick some up so I can make my mod something I can actually keep functional? And what type of resistor should I use to ensure accurate voltage? (will this help battery life?)

You can fit a 4- aaa battery holder in there and get yourself a nice 4.8 volts with rechargeables that should last all day.
That was the very first box I used to make my very first MOd. It does a nice job with the 4-aaa's and its specially nice cause its made by you and it will save you lots of $ in batteries..

This is just the beginning, soon you will be making things you only thought you could buy.

Thanks for the link shreck. I thought about conventional rechargeable batteries, but I assumed that there was some reason the li-ion batteries are more commonly used that I was unaware of. I may build a second mod using the aaa's after I get some cr123's so I can do a side by side comparison of vapor production, battery life etc. Has anyone already done something like this?
