hi guys! Hope everyone had a good weekend. I'm new at building on RTA's and rda's. So today I tried a 7 wrap dual coil 2.5 diameter in staple wire pictured below. It was touching the side of the tank on my Griffin. Would reducing the diameter help? So previously I had the same set up at six wraps and it was reading .24 I was told more wraps lower the resistance... So I went ahead and did dual coils 8 wraps on kanthal 24 gauge and it reads .34? I want a .2 coil how many wraps should I use? And the coil calculators are no help for me!

You failed to say what core size it was? A wire calc should get you close if you just select parallel as your wire choice.

Less wire equals less resistance. Fewer wraps, or smaller wraps equal less resistance. Larger diameter wire equals less resistance. Smaller wire equals more resistance. More wraps and larger diameters equal more R.

I want to say something about using a wire called boom-boom, but I guess its all good.

BOL.

Nope this is wrong. more wrap of the same wire, same diameter core equal more resistance. So 5 wrap same setup would give around to 0.2

As mentioned on another post where I replied sorry guys. Newbie mistake. "Ok Sorry I was figuring it was higher as in I could fire more watts. Noob mistake so 2.5 is in fact lower then .34 but the watts can go higher at a lower resistance. My bad. Anyhow I figure it out! Made dual 4 wrap coils for the tsunami and 5 wraps dual for the Griffin the 4 wrap was at 1.9 which is nice on the drip tank. And the 5 wrap is at .21 :) sorry for the confusion. Lol" and why did I want .2? B why not I was vaping my crown tank before and enjoyed the .25 coil the best. I was building at .5 and it was nice flavor and good vapor just looking for a lil warmer Vap and .21 is far from melting anything haha.

I'm going to assume you're using regulated mods as you mentioned taking the watts higher above. Please correct me if you're using mech mods.

Not quite sure what you mean in the quote above, but using the same wire the higher the resistance (more wire used per coil) the more watts it can handle without becoming a hot vape and eventually burning juice. If you use too much wire you'll notice longer coil heat up times after you hit the switch, specially when the coils are cool.

With regulated mods resistance by itself is pretty insignificant. It's all about what combination of wire type like staple, twisted, etc, the wire gauges used, how much wire you use and how many watts you want to run at. The amount of heat you're putting into the atty per second is controlled by the watts only.

It's completely different in mech mods of course :)

I meant to say using the same wire on both builds. I have staple wire and kanthal. I am using regulated mods yes. So the thicker the gauge the easier the current runs through it? Im building on the Griffin and ever since I been using staple wire I find in not getting as good flavor as I was with kanthal 24 gauge. I thought staple wire would be better? The wicking is tricky I find. When I first started building on the Griffin id get amazing flavor but the first tank id get a bit of spit back and leaking. Here the last couple tanks I have wicked aren't leaking I'm getting good flavor but not as good as when the first tank leaked. I'm wicking it the same as far as the length of my cotton. Maybe the wick is too thick?
