Put the end that screws into the battery in your mouth and blow, hard several times. Then puff without inhaling a few times. If there is a primer taste, this usually gets rid of it.

I never clean unless it's ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY. As you can tell from my signature, I've been vaping since last March. I've lost about four attys.

If I have to clean it's in Crest Pro Mouthwash (blue). Put the atty(s) in and let them soak. Every once in a while use something to swirl them around. Take them out and put in distilled water and let them sit it that overnight. Since you have plenty of attys, just let them sit for a couple of days to dry. Then put a couple drops on the arch and let sit so it has time to soak in. Then puff a few times but don't inhale (sometimes has a bad flavor from the mouthwash). Repeat this a few times.
At this point, the atty should be just about like new unless there is something wrong with it.

I had an atty that I used on some nasty, nasty tasting liquid. I couldn't get the flavor out and it was tainting every juice I tried to use it on. I didn't feel like washing and drying it so:

Step 1: Run a Q-tip around the inside to get rid of any excess liquid. The atomizer on an 801 is very long so you can stick a Q-tip pretty far down without coming into contact with the bridge. (I have low bridge ones.)

Step 2: Blow it out several time. Blow into the battery end and have a tissue at the cart end to catch the juice.

Step 3: Repeat steps 1 & 2 a few times.

Step 4: Roll up a paper towel so it goes halfway up the atty. The rest of the paper just fans out below. Prop it up somewhere, paper side down. (I use an old medicine vial as there isn't enough room for it to fall over.) Change the paper a couple of times on the first day, then once a day.

Step 5: When you can barely smell the old liquid when you pull the paper out, repeat steps 1 & 2, put in a new cart and vape.

While this takes more days than other cleaning methods, it actually involved less labor -- about 10 minutes total. If you have other atomizers to use while you wait for it to completely drain it works well.

I will also add, auto batteries are good for one thing---special occasions where you don't want to have to deal with a manual. Buy something like the Chuck or the GG, or get crafty and MIY---I love the NicoStick and my Wall Wart mods.
I've discovered attys work at their ulitimate with these things.
Hi jj2, what are your wall mart mods?

Hi All,

I have just bought an auto mini pipe from a friend. It has 2 new 801 atomizers. Since I am new to e-cig, I have a few questions regarding maintenance of atty.

1) Why do we need to clean the atty?
2) The atty metal wick needed to be wet in order not to be burned out?
3) What happens if we do not clean the atty? Oxidized by the e-liquid?
4) By using dental mouthwash, soaked overnight not shortened the atty's life?

Thanks and best regards,
Jay

1) Why do we need to clean the atty?

Old thickened eliquid coats the mesh and wick, preventing new eliquid from being vaporized properly.

2) The atty metal wick needed to be wet in order not to be burned out?

It needs to be wet to prevent overheating the liquid which remains, which will cause the very unpleasant "burnt atty" taste. The atty parts themselves are not burnt, but only the liquid residue.

3) What happens if we do not clean the atty? Oxidized by the e-liquid?

Vapor production is reduced and airflow through the atty is frequently restricted, producing "a hard draw." The working parts of the atty are resistant to oxidization, so this is not a concern.

4) By using dental mouthwash, soaked overnight not shortened the atty's life?

It is not necessary to soak overnight. One hour or less should be enough, especially if you gently shake the container a few times while the atty are soaking.

You must rinse the attys very well after soaking to remove as much of the mouthwash as possible, but there will still be some taste remaining from it. This taste goes away soon and is not a problem if you use menthol eliquid.

Do not soak attys in alcohol for long periods. The alcohol may dissolve the glue which holds the atty together.
