There are some interesting and subtle differences between the Classic Penstyle and the Dura 510.

First and foremost is draw. The 801's 4 hole atomizer draws so easily, it's like sucking on a soda straw. The air just rushes right through it. The 510 on the other hand draws more like a traditional cigarette. It's constricted and slow to get a full drag from

As far as vapor goes, the 801 produces gobs and gobs, as long as the cart is full. It crashes through liquid like no other, but it really does produce a ton of vapor. The 510 also makes lots of vapor, but it's very dependent on atomizer freshness/cleanness and battery charge. As soon as that 510 battery starts to hit 1/2 to 1/4 charge it starts making very wispy vapor. The 801 doesn't seem to suffer from this same effect.

In terms of the vapor experience, this seems to be where the differences are the most pronounced. The 801 vapor seems to be way tastier. I think that's due to the large amount and relative coolness of the vapor. It rushes in so quickly and mixes with so much ambient air that it seems colder, but delivers a lot more taste. The 510 on the other hand produces much hotter vapor that seems less flavorful, and though less tasty, is a lot more like the experience of sucking in hot smoke.

Both give a good throat hit, though the 510, when it has a good battery charge, has a stronger hit, probably due to the hotter vapor.

Also of note is the fact that the 510 can flood pretty easily. More easily than the 801 IMO. It always seems to me that the 510 needs a few drags to get it to the optimal vapor production level where as the 801 gives good vapor from the very first drag on a freshly loaded cart.

Finally, the size is an issue when using the 801 on the road. It's huge in comparison to the 510. Personally, I like the super compact size of the 510 better when I'm away from home, but the short battery life is the trade off. The 801 is a lot more obtrusive, but the battery lasts like a champ. Still, I tend to leave the 801 at home and take the 510 with me. That used to be a big problem until I got the 510 PCC, which makes traveling with it a lot easier.

Just some thoughts. I'm sure all this has been covered before. I like both of these a lot. Each has its advantages and disadvantages.

SM, I think you hit the nail on the head with that statement. I find the 510 is tastier if a draw in a little air as I am vaping.

Thanks Surf Monkey, I was wondering how the 510 would compare to my 801. I agree with everything you said about the 801. All my questions were answered in your post. I love this forum!

For what it's worth, my 510 is my device of choice. I like the size, the vapor production and the quality of the vapor. It takes a slightly different technique and it's a little less consistent than the 801, but the upsides outweigh the downsides for me. I tend to think of the 801 as my in-home unit and the 510 as my all purpose e-cigarette for home and away. Plus you don't look like as big of a dork when using the 510.

I'm mainly concerned with consistency and throat hit. I don't have a problem with looking like a dork. I've been known to go out with my 801 tethered to a power pack! If that's not "dorky", I don't know what is. :D

    Thanks for the review! :)

Are you dripping or carts only?

The taste thing..I've not yet had that experience with the 510, although I know others have. in some cases, I taste the flavors *better* with my 510s. I have no idea why, as it doesn't seem to be atty dependent...but I do like 'stronger' versus more subtle tastes.

I've got a 'real' 801 en route, will give it a workout and see if it changes my mind on the taste thing.

DITTO good comparison! I own both as well.

I've done a little of both, but I tend to stick with carts, mainly by virtue of the fact that it's pretty easy to flood the atomizer of the 510. At least, it's easy for me to flood it. Others may have more success in that area. My impression is that the 510 is more drip friendly due to the fact that the bridge is a lot closer to the opening. Getting a drop down to the 801 bridge practically requires a needle bottle.

i disagree with one of your arguments.

ive found the 510 vapor holds strong until the very end of the battery life.

    everything else though, great review!

It may be other factors. I'm not saying that my experience is universal. Maybe my carts are getting dry around the same time the battery starts to give out? Hard to say. Thanks for pointing it out, though. More feedback is always good!

dont get me wrong i love my 801 but refilling carts takes alot of juice so i drip!! and it seems like even when carts are done making vapor there is still alot of juice in them

I've noticed that too. The reservoir is so deep that I think the atomizer stops being able to wick out the fluid before they're dry. That being said, the 510 can leave some fluid at the bottom too, it's just that it's not as much of a problem with the 510 because there's not as much in there to begin with.

I pretty much agree with everything you said in your review other than the comment I quoted above. I seriously find that the 510 delivers better flavor from my juices. That's one interesting thing about the 510. There seems to a group that says it's good for flavor and another group that says it's bad....

It reminds me of a lyric from a Dire Straits song.... "Two men say their Jesus, one of them must be wrong."

It must have something to do with the temperature of the vapor. Could it be that some people's taste buds respond more to cool vapor and some to warm vapor? Because that seems to be the main qualitative difference between the two. The 510 makes warmer vapor while the 801 vapor seems almost cold.

@Surf how long do you wait between drags on your 510?

Just trying to guess at the difference in flavor..glad I'm not alone in getting better flavor (to me) on the 510 vs most others, though..

I usually give the 510 a little time to cool off between drags. The atomizer gets really hot if you drag it constantly. Not a huge amount of time, though. Maybe 15 sometimes?

As you said the 510 has a warmer vapor than the 801. Could peoples' tastes buds respond differently? Anything is possible. Maybe it's the type of juice a person uses? I'm not saying anyone is right or wrong when we compare the two taste wise. It really all boils down to the individual I guess. I just find it interesting how most people can agree on the 510s strengths, but it seems to be split down the middle as to how the 510 produces the actual flavor of a juice. :)
