808 vs 510 for fresh newbie

Hello all! This is only my 3rd post, so bear with me as I'm sure this has been asked before. I've been lurking and reading for a week, but so much of this is still over my head that I'm hoping some of you can help me.

Me: I'm 34, been smoking since 16, and loyal to Camel Lights since about 21. I have a husband who quit Copenhagen cold turkey 2.5 years ago and wishes I could do the same, and a 2 year old. I only smoke a couple of packs a week these days after several attempts to quit (gum, patch, Chantix, etc.), but it varies with my stress level. I am a Luddite who can barely use my iPhone, so I do not want to be "building coils" (not sure yet what that means)or messing with complicated equipment every day. The only e-cig I've tried so far was a disposable, and I broke it by chewing on the "filter". I want to start with something accessible and non-intimidating for a newbie, and don't mind upgrading in a few months if I need a better delivery system.

What are pros and cons of the 808s vs. 510s? Which would you recommend for me? I'd like to order a kit this week if possible, and wouldn't mind retailer recommendations as well. Thank you!!

the easiest thing to do is go to walmart and look at their starter kits. they carry mistic and fin. i know the mistics are pretty much 808's.
thats how i started. i used them for 2 months until i stepped up to ego's w/pro tanks.
the mistics are ok, but after a day they still give vapor but not much nic. a started pack is about 14 bux.

edit: if you have a vape shop go there. if thats the case start with 510's.

Hi and welcome to ECF. Most cig sized PVs (personal vaporizers) are 808 threaded so your options for accessories is rather limited. Battery life of the cig sized is also a complaint BUT seeing as you're a light smoker it shouldn't really be a problem. I'd suggest you visit a B&M- realize they charge a little more. Good news is Fla prolly has the largest number of B&M- can also get to sample juices before you buy

Hi and welcome, I think you are better off with a unit that has 510/Ego threads. It will be easier to add parts to it in the future. There are many choices of clearomizers, tanks, etc that will fit and the same with replacement batteries. This is a nice starter kit and pretty straightforward to use. As you get comfortable with it it will be easy to add to .

Whatever you get, have at least 2 batteries.

Do 510s always work with liquid, or can you get pre-filled? I'm looking for less fiddly to start. I was planning on two batteries (and hoping one would last all day so the other can be on the charger) for sure. I know the 510s are compatible with eGo parts if I want to trade up, and that there are 3 pieces instead of two. What are some other reasons to pick one over the other? There are two b&m stores near me that I know of, but I think they only sell eGos if I understand their websites correctly.

510 just describes the connection. Ego style batteries have a 510 compatible connection. Think of it as screwdrivers. There is the flat kind and then the Phillips kind. They both do the same thing, it's just that the screws are different.
Pre-filled are ok to begin with, but you probably will want (at some point down the road) to be more in control of what kind of flavors you want to vape. Pre-filled carts leave you stuck with whatever juice the vendor puts in there. When you get more comfortable, you will probably want to move to a small tank or a clearomizer, where you can add whatever juice you want to at any time.

With 808 you have: more options for cig-alikes, if cig-alike is important to you. More options with pref-filled carts from what I've seen. Filling and refilling a cartomizer is easy though. Thinner cig-alike batteries for like 9.95 apiece at places. And cartomizers are much easier overall than clearomizers, you can toss 'em around not being so careful, and they leak less.

510/ego have all the advantages that people mention here, and most people upgrade from 808 to 510 ego anyway. I use both.

I would go with an ego/510 check out an ego 1100mah and get a basic clearomozer. You have to refill it but that battery size and a 1.6ml tank lasts me a day and a half. I smoked a pack a day so this would likely last you a bit longer. That's a good starting point and has done me very well for 14 weeks!!

You can get pre-filled cartridges that will fit 510 threads but a clearomizer tank is really easy to fill and will be much more satisfying. The pre-filled tend to be rather bland, finicky, go dry fast and are otherwise annoying. The learning curve on how to use and maintain a tank system is really not that steep and well worth it. Your B&M can show you what you need to know or lot's of advice and videos available online.

I believe in the "KISS" principle. I started off with a cig-alike, still use them as back-up, but did graduate to something much bigger (g). There are two major form factors for the connecting thread..808d-1 and 510. 510 is more popular but there are plenty of places that sell 808 threaded equipment. I started off with the CigEasy 808 Elite. If you get the starter kit, you get two batteries, a cheap charger, some filled 'cartos, and a bottle of juice. You charge up a battery, screw on a carto, and start vaping. When the carto gets empty, you screw on another one. Simple, minimum of fiddling around. An empty carto is easily refilled from the bottle of juice. If vaping works for you, then you can stay with what you have and start the search for the nirvanna of juices (G). If it doesn't then you are out fifty bucks. You can buy bigger batteries (longer lasting) for the 808 system or go crazy buying new PV's until you end up buying a Provari or REO, or maybe both (G)! If you find vaping is for you, keep reading these forums for a wealth of knowledge (and opinions). Good luck, and it worked for me!!!
