My M401 (also an auto battery) has done this before. You may have some fluid in your battery. Turn it upside down and shake the hell out of it a few times and stand it up that way on a paper towel over night to dry out. Also, dry off the connection between your atty and battery and maybe try cleaning the atty out.

I have a 901 auto battery that does the same thing as you describe - but in addition it also comes on by itself with nearly any movement. It's been that way for over a week and I have tried draining, shaking, and...waiting. I assume(ed) that it got liquid in it and it is somehow shorted something out. Actually, I had a 2nd battery that was doing the same thing but is now completely dead. As a result I ordered a bunch of manual batteries and am more careful with dripping and making sure not to overfill carts.
