I'm looking to get another cheap (but good) beater mod from FT. I'm looking for reliability and rugged durability. These are are the 2 I am currently looking at: The Sentinel M16 and the Private V2. Anybody have any stories on them good or bad? This will be mainly for work where I use and abuse them. I want something I can drop but still count on. Just don't want to waste the money (or the extended time waiting on them) if it's well known by the experts out there they aren't good ones. Thanks for any help.

I know its not one of those youre looking at... But the KTS+ is a really nice mod... Havnt had any problems with mine yet... Except for the gold finish getting a bit ugly, but if youre gonna drop it 6 times a day i doubt thats a biggie... The lock on it is really good once its been tightened a bit and it has a nice overall feel

I have the Private v2 clone. A very solid mod all around, although I haven't really stress tested it at all. I know the k100 can take a beating and keep on trucking, but I found that if you are heavy handed then you can dent your battery if you hold the switch too hard. The negative post, at least on mine, is only ~3mm in diameter. I can't personally comment on the build quality of the woolston magneto clone but a coworker of mine has it and say it is a very nice mod. I haven't had a chance to compare it to my magneto yet but it seems like a very solid copy.

hate to be a debbie downer, but not sure true reliability and durability come *cheap*. ?

Those are the hallmarks of a good, dependable, middle range priced mod to me, JMHO. :)

Okay so looking at it from a design standpoint you have:
1. 510 threaded cap (SS stronger than brass in regards to stripping)
2. Threaded body (Private V2 latest run has thin tubes that have been failing, QC issue not design issue)
3. Switch Assembly (springs easily replaceable at Home depot, Switch threads into contact, minimal failure points)

Threading on the M16 and I'm assuming Private V2 are similar and on my M16 the threads are course enough to allow for more play when screwing together, good thing is the thread pitch isn't so fine that you could easily strip.

If someone could show in regards to design how a $200 mod actually improves reliability and durability it would be a far stretch.

Private V2, M16, V3 are all good mod at very good price. They all hit hard!!! Personally I like look of Private V2 updated version which addressed 510 threading issue. I got one and it very very nice. Love tri tone!! It does have floating center pin which is very tight. Will require little mod if you want to flush mount atty but it's easy fix.
