so i ran across this pen in the bookstore after class and i could not resist. how awesome would it be to make a pen into a battery? that way, if i needed a vape during a long lecture or exam, im just chewing on my pen!

so check this out, this is a bic xxl i got from my overpriced on campus bookstore for 3 bucks, the top half is a very tight squeeze for a 14500 but it has thick enough walls i can drill/dremil it out.

I had to post this up here because it should be a pretty cool mod. after disassembly, there is two ways to build this. the battery will only fit in the enlarged section of the pen, however, i can either put the carto on the bottom, through the finger grip making the drip tip look like the tip of the pen, or put the carto at the top making it look like the "clicker" to the pen.

I like the top idea better because nobody "chews" on the ink part of their pen. I can insert a switch somewhere probably in the bottom portion where the foam grip is. However, the 14500 fit is so tight in the top i may have to have a wire running outside the pen to make the circuit down to the bottom for a switch.

What do you guys think? Any ideas/comments? :vapor:

If it is only gonna be for the occasional stealth vape in class, use a 10440. For extra geek cred, maintain its ability to write...Depending on the type of ink cartridge, you could take one with only about 1" worth of ink in it, cut it down just above that and put it in there...

Just some ideas for you to toss around. I could definitely see this being a students best friend.

you can use copper tape on the inside of the tube and cover it with kapton tape, then you don't need any wires on the outside.

Thanks for the input guys! Is a 10440 the same size as a AAA? I'd like to stick to my 14500's since I have a bunch of them and a charger already from some box mods. It would be so sweet it i could make it write still! I wonder if i trim the ink cart and plug the top with some glue if it will still work? Mjag, is that copper tape available at a hardware store? I could rig it how a flashlight has that copper strip up the inside wall. Good idea!

Capping the pen with glue will stop the ink from flowing, as BWG707 meant. They're usually capped with a porous whitish foam, like the kind butane lighters have in them to "wick" the butane. I'd try to use the existing "cap" or roll up some tissue paper tightly and press a piece of that in the cut off tube using a round toothpick with the point cut off. Your pen would have to be pretty low on ink (or find a way to extract some) for that to work, however. Use rubber gloves and be sure to leave a small air space at the top of the tube, or you'll have one leaky *ss pen!

If it sounds like I've done this before, well... I have had a couple of modified very short Bic pens, waaaay back when I was in school, just for the heck of it ;)

the 14500 i dont think will work. i dont have a drill bit to fit, and my dremil isnt doing the job. not to mention id have to dig pretty deep to widen the entire tube. so if i were to proceed i'd have to go with a 10440. the battery and atty connection will take up the entire large top half, which makes the carto stick out the top about 1". which still doesnt look that bad. it would be nice if it recessed more but if you didnt know it was a pv im not sure you'd be able to tell. taking off the drip tip will help too. also, with the entire top section being taken up, the only place for a switch would be the bottom. i have a small .5A switch which may fit in the very tip with the little black button sticking out the bottom making it look like the ball point. which can be cool. the bottom section, without the foam grip, is too thin to allow a switch to be put in horizontally. i may be able to put one along the outside of the tube towards the top, which would still make it "pen like" if i were holding it up to my mouth. however putting the switch at the bottom would make it easier to wire

yea, if i place the small .5A switch where i was talking about, at the very tip with the button sticking out the point, it can be replaced by simply unscrewing the tip and re-soldering a new switch. of course this is all theoretical. but im pretty sure i can dremil the tip to house and hold the switch nicely. would be cooler if the switch clipped on but i'll deal with that when the time comes.

Here's something I did before to my eGo... it's very stealthy!

I inserted it into a pentel pen!

You could even use the actual pen tip as a drip tip... just remove the felt tip. In the pic, I cut off the pen's "tip" so I could insert a real drip tip.

I sawed off the bottom and made a hole for the switch. I inserted my eGo batt inside (my eGo has that 3-click on/off switch so I can slide it in even if the button gets pressed, it's still off). I just taped the bottom in place with ordinary transparent tape and covered it with the pen's cap.

Drawbacks are people will think you're suckin on your pentel pen.
