Hey all,

I stepped into the world of cartomizers recently, and have been using them almost exclusively for about 2 weeks. But I decided to open up a new atomizer last night and to just do some 'old' direct dripping for a bit. But then I quickly got confused/alarmed/worried about how I was doing it.

Now, most material that I've found online has covered how to clean out your atomizer, how to de-flood your atomizer and then prime it again, and how to drip onto the atomizer... What isn't covered very well, in my opinion, is when do you know when to drip again??

So it seems most people think that you can get '1 analog's' worth of vaping out of 2-3 drops on a 510 atty. I seem to be getting a little less than 1 analog worth of vaping before the flavor goes funny. So I refill, but I find I'm flooding a lot... This is getting long :( Quick questions !! :

1. Do I keep vaping until there is no more vapor coming out, or do I vape until the flavor goes 'funny'?
2. Is it just my brain playing tricks on me, or does it seem that I can only get 1 puff now until the flavour goes funny??
3. Basically, just help me please figure out when I need to re-drip while direct dripping! I've only got 2 atties at the moment, so I really don't want to blow one out by accident in 1 or 2 days...

Any tips on when to re-drip are greatly appreciated!

Cheers

I'm still a noob, but guess I'll do until a real expert steps in...
I put 4 to max of 5 drips to first set up a new atomizer. I found the LR to get hot real fast, so keep the pull short and sweet if low resistance or low oHms, below 2.0 for example. I then add 3 drops when I run low, not out of vapor. Usually I get 3 to 5 medium hits before that happens. The one mistake I made early on, besides flooding it, was that I held my button a bit too long and got the burned flavor. That wasn't the same flavor as letting it get too dry, which was a lot stronger and fouler.

I am assuming you blew the primer stuff out first here since you said you'd been reading about it here. Smarter than I was, if so. LOL If your atty is getting too warm, it'll mess up flavor even when you still have enough eliquid, iow. Let it cool down between hits and keep your draw shorter than with cartos.

Hopefully, the folks with actual knowledge will be here very quickly. Good luck!!

I put 5 drops on a standard 510 atomizer (at 3.7 volts) when I've just cleaned it or blown it out real good.
From that point on I put 3 drops every time the flavors starts to get that "dry" taste.

I only get about 5 good drags from 3 drops, but I like to take long (six second) drags.
So everyone's mileage is going to vary a bit depending on how big their drops are, the voltage, and how long their drags are.

Sometimes you can get that "dry" taste by not waiting long enough between drags.
This can make you put more drops in when you shouldn't, and cause you to flood it a little, making it gurgle a bit.

Some people like to fill it up until it gurgles a bit though, so that isn't necessarilly a problem.
But if you keep on doing that, you'll soon flood it a lot instead of a little.
:)

Flooding it will not harm your atomizer in any way, so don't worry about that.

If you're using an LR atomizer, forget everything I just said.
The LR 510 atomizers that I've used are a whole different animal.

Really excellent advice there Laffs.

I was nervous myself when attempting dripping on my atty with my spade 3.7v.

I can only add or really clarify a bit that when you start the drip on your atty, it is to get not only the atty wet but then to let it seep down for a good 1-2 min.

Starting up with 3-4 drops personally then taking a primer puff or two only to follow up with 2-3 more drops.

Because you are dripping on the atty and not a constant feed like the cartomizer, the tendency is to smoke it just like the carto's.

You've experienced this already then when you got the foul burnt taste.

It's very much a personal taste and learning game.

Draw light to medium with a bit of a break in between.

If you puff too much, especially when you get a great hit or two, you will quickly burn through the juice and get burnt again.

Drippers keep a bottle at thier side just for this reason.

Drip drip drip, puff puff puff, drip drip, puff puff rest........at this point the atty has started to heat up (depending if its LR or not it could be sooner) and you need to relax.

If this is just too time consuming and frustrating just stick to the carto's. They work great and you can get dual coil carto's to help with vapor production and even a bit stronger taste close to dripping.

Good luck!

well 1st rule of thumb is keep your atty nice and wet, now on to drip vape ect

it all depends on your battery/atty setup and how long you take each vape...if you are hard on each draw you will have to drip more.. normally 4-6 drops will last about 4-6ish drags... if it tastes burnt or rather off, put another drop or 2 on the bridge and let it soak in about 10 seconds.. there is no harm putting a little more in, but if you overfill the cup inside the atty, well you know, it drips out the bottom ... gets messy ... if you are using a LR you are probably going to need to drip more often as it burns a lot hotter and eats up joose

Ok, thanks for the advice guys! I think I was pulling on it for a bit too long, in the same manner as I was with the cartomizers, which may have caused the problem.

But do you ever get a perma-burnt taste atomizer? It seems like now each time I take a pull I'm getting a funny flavour. I'm not sure if that's just my mind or if I've somehow ruined the atomizer? Does it either work or it doesn't, or can you somehow screw up the atty and it always tastes funny?

Thanks a bunch for the tips, guys/gals!

Four drops to kick it off, then a couple more when it starts to burn the back of your throat or taste burnt.

I used to pull the bridge out of the attie when dripping (I'm on cartos right now) and that made it a better vape for me. There are a bunch of youtube vids on how to do this - takes a bit of getting used to.

The golden rule is that a wet attie is a happy attie - once it starts to "crack" when lighting up you're probably causing problems. If the vape gets thin, I used to push the button and blow through the air holes where the battery / attie come together - this helped for sure.

All of this is imho of course, and picked up from various forums and reviews. You know what they say - ymmv, and once you get onto the subject of cleaning atties you're opening a can of worms. There are as many different methods out there as there are vapers!

I drip more when it starts to taste a little burnt. If your atty is running hot, try pulsing your button instead of a sustained press. I usually press for a second or two, then pulse for the rest of the drag when this happens. Keeps the atty at a steady burn, instead of going into overdrive.

If you are not sure if you need to drip again or not, pull your tip off, and press the button. If the atty just makes some vapor, you are probably good for a drag or two more. If it starts glowing orange right away, give it a few drops.

I drip 95% 0f the time (the filler in cartos tickle my throat and make me cough, darn it!). You learn the perfect sizzle sound of juice in your atty. If it gurgles there's too much juice, hit your button, warm it up for 5 seconds or so and vape v-e-r-y slowly a few times. For me, it's all about the sound of the sizzle. I probably look a little strange firing my PV next to my ear so often. And you can tell as the taste begins to diminish, add a couple of drops to avoid the burnt taste as you learn your PV sounds.

With a new 510 atty I put juice in, blow it through, put a couple of more drops and take primer puffs, no inhaling. Repeat if necessary. LR 306 attys don't come primed. I sure appreciate that but still blow a couple of drops through in case there's any machine particles in the atty. If you try a LR 306 on your 3.7v you might be in vaping heaven. Only rule is keep them wet with juice. Many members insist dripping is the purest form of vaping. I agree. There are many YouTube videos on dripping. Good luck on your adventure!

Coming back to dripping after using cartos for a couple of weeks was really quite a shocker... I thought my cartos were awesome, and they were... But really you get perhaps a more 'pure' experience from dripping, even though it is a bit more fiddly. I still will load up my cartos when I know I don't want to be bothered to drip every 5 minutes or so, but at home in front of my computer I'm starting to get the hang of the dripping game.

Thanks again for the tips, people!
