tanks are basically a 'container' which increase the capacity to hold more liquid for your PV device.
Yes you can use tanks on cartomisers. But you have to tweak around with the carto by punching a small hole on the side of the cartomiser inorder to let liquid 'feed' from the tank into it.

There are many different types of Carto Tanks out there and you have to slowly find and read up which will be the one that appeals to you.

ashabrown, simply put, a tank is a juice holder nothing more. The cartomizer has a feed hole punched into the side of it and submerged into the juice in the tank. The tank makes refilling or topping up less often. There are basically two types of carto tanks. Grommet style and full cap style. You can use the same cartos in the tank that you currently use with the addition of the feed hole or buy pre-punched cartos at a bit higher expense.

More so than the pg/vg ratio, it may be that you're not filling or topping up the carto properly. I vape 100% vg (bobba's bounty) at times and don't generally have any problems. Remember, cartomizers are designed to be disposable. I use one maybe 2 or 3 days then fill a new one and continue on.
