Im currently using a 306 atty on a Twist and looking to upgrade to a tank...

Ive had my eye on the Smoktech DCT and also the Vapeonly tank. Can they both take the same size cartos?? I want to buy a tank that I can easily buy cartos for but also experiment with different cartos until I find the one I want..
I have heard of Boge XL single coil's, 901's and Smoktech 501s... I want to try them all but I want a tank that can make that possible, or at least be most compatible with easy to find cartos..

Thank you all!

Hi

Cartos for tanks are usually 35mm for standard and 45mm for XL or mega; the measure is of the tube, it doesn't include the screw. A tank is just a tube and end pieces, so you can but either a single coil or dual coil inside, whichever you prefer (I prefer a single coil myself).

Unfortunately, vendors sometimes don't put what size of carto a tank takes, but most of the time they also sale replacement cartos, so they will match.

This little tank takes 45mm and is inexpensive if you just want something to try. I have two of them and they're ok for a cheap little tank. The vendor sells replacement cartos, but I wasn't impressed. 510 SCT-V2 3.5ml Tank

I have a coupe smoktech tanks, there ok for the price. Kinda slidy on the carto, so just dont pick it up by the carto and a ming drip tip helps it from sliding up. If you use smoktech cartos they have a flange to keep it from sliding down. But you can use any carto, they only thing to keep in mind is the tank/carto height. I LOVE my ValleyViewVapes tank, pyrex. grin.

Happy vaping

The Vapeonly tank is a clearomizer tank much like Vivi Nova tanks. It does not use cartomizers, it uses a heating coil that has string wicks to draw juice to the head just like a clearomizer does, as shown in the bottom of the above pic of a rebuildable clearomizer. Therefore, a cartotank and a clearotank are two different and incompatible types of tanks.

A cartotank uses cartomizers with holes in it (called pre-punched cartomizers), which allows juice from the tank to enter the cartomizer as you vape from it. The cartomizer fits through the holes in two endcaps on either end of a plastic or glass tube.

Your choice in cartomizers will be primarily between Boge, Smoktech, Kanger, and Ikenvape brand cartomizers. Each brand will offer two lengths of cartomizer (35mm for standard length tanks, 45mm for XL length tanks), as shown in the second pic above. Smoktech also offers a choice between dual coil and single coil cartomizers, which are the heating element that heats the liquid into vapor.

Once you have 5 posts, you will have access to my blog which has several articles on cartotank setup, a list of vendors that sells pre-punched cartomizers for tanks, etc. Click on the "6" under my avatar where it says blog entries.

Question with regard to cartomizers . . . Does it make a difference whether the carto comes with or without the flange at the bottom by the threads? What purpose does the flange serve?
Smoktech was one of the first companies to offer a cartotank. They designed their cartotank's bottom endcap with a shallow indentation to fit a flange on their cartomizers, which would keep the tank from sliding TOWARD the battery device (and because their original tanks were rather "slippy slidey" on the cartomizer). The flange did nothing to keep the tank from sliding AWAY or OFF the battery device.

The flange is, in my opinion, not neccessary for today's modern tanks. The vast majority of today's tanks fit on the cartomizer quite snuggley once the o-rings in the endcaps adjust to the cartomizer. If you use a flanged cartomizer on another tank other than one made by Smoktech, there may be a 1mm gap (the thickness of the flange) between the tank's bottom endcap and the battery device, which in most cases is too small to notice. In fact, the gap improves air flow performance of the cartomizer when vaping.

Although the majority of tanks fit quite snuggley on PV's, it is still good practice to pick up your PV by the battery end, and not by the tank alone.
