I've been a smoker for 14 years now and I smoke a pack of Newports a day. I have asthma as it is and I'm tired of coughing up stuff every morning when I wake up. Plus, it's getting really expensive, but no matter what I try, I can't seem to quit for more than a day or two. Then I saw an ad for Blu E-Cigarettes and I was curious, so I checked the site out. I had never even heard of electronic cigarettes, so I did a little searching, and I ended up here. I'm quite intrigued because after reading about them, it sounds really good. But I'm not sure where to start or if they'll even really be able to replace my Newports. I know I want one that looks like a cigarette at least somewhat (the first one I saw was from Blu and I'd be ok with it even though the tip is blue) and I want to get menthols that will taste close to Newports as possible. So what brands should I be looking at? Are Blu's menthols anything like Newports? The other factor would be shipping speed. Basically, I don't want to run out and be waiting for some company to ship them because I'm not a very nice person when I don't have cigs and I have a 9 year old son so I don't want to snap at him. So any suggestions on which brands I should be looking at would be great.

In regard to Menthol... I was a long-time Carlton Menthol smoker, and I have two menthol flavors that satisfy me: MyVaporStore Menthol and eLiquidPlanet Menthol.

I've seen a "Nuport Menthol" at VaporStation, but haven't tried it myself. I have tried other flavors from there, and so far, all have been very good.

Of course, there are probably countless other vendors with the products you're seeking, but those are the ones I've had personal experience with. Good luck in your search. :)

ShortyBoo -- this doesn't directly address your questions, I realize, but FWIW: I heard about these products only a few weeks ago. Sat on the fence, then ordered one. I paid way too much -- a typical newbie problem :-{ -- from a web site that I liked because it was actually readable. So many e-cig web sites are designed terribly and it's hard to get decent info from them. So I 'imprinted' on the first one I found that didn't have terrible design flaws. Live and learn.

I must say, the blucigs web site design is outstanding, and it's probably one reason for their (apparent) success. (E-commerce site owners, take notice: readability really matters -- it can and does affect sales.)

But I digress. ShortyBoo, I was a one-pack-plus-per-day smoker for a long time. Within about a day of getting my e-cig, I was down to half a pack a day. And I would be down to zero if not for the fact that I didn't correctly estimate how many batteries or cartridges I'd need (the type I got uses a 'cartomizer' -- atomizer and cartridge built in; convenient, but fairly low capacity). So until I can glom onto some 'juice' locally I have to spread out my use of the e-cig and alas I'm back to regular cigarettes until I've ordered more 'stuff'.

Bottom line: for me, this worked. Nobody advertises e-cigs as a smoking-cessation device. I suppose it's partly that the act of smoking continues. Plus, these products haven't been certified as smoking-cessation devices. Whatever! I know it's working for me, getting me slowly off tobacco. And there's no lack here of messages in which people report pretty dramatic reductions in their smoking from the moment they began using the e-cigs. Who knows what the future of this technology is, with the current presidential administration maybe just biding its time before it tries to squash the technology. I sure hope they don't, because I consider it nothing short of miraculous. (The e-cig technology, I mean -- not the current administration.)

I guess I still don't quite get how these work. I looked at the Nuport from VaporStation, but I'm completely lost at what all I'll need to use it. I thought you had to buy cartridges that go with a specific brand and model, but was I wrong? Do you just buy the juice and fill it yourself? I see there's two sizes of bottles, but how do I know how far it would go? I'm just really confused about this.

Most of us refill our cartridges with juice. About 2 ml a day some more, some less. I have a 510 because I love the manual batteries and the throat hit(like cigs) You need a minimum of 2 batteries and 2 atomizers. I have 2 sisters that smoke menthol and I mixed some flue cured tobacco and menthol juice and it tasted just like a real cigarette to me. The flue cured has a really smoky, ashy taste but is strong. There are a lot of people here who smoked 20+ to over 50 years and have left cigs behind them now. Best of luck

I can't figure out how to edit. Anyway, I'm thinking about the Joye510-C at VaporStation. The starter kit comes with a manual and automatic battery (what's the difference?) 2 atomizers, a charger, 5 refillable cartridges, and a 5ml bag of Polyester filling (what's that for?). Anyway, would I need anything else?
Polyfil is for restuffing cartridges.........I recommend some juice and a few blank cartridges. I use one cartridge for 2-5 days and just keep topping it off with juice if it feels dry. Those 5 carts with the kit will last u only 2-5 days without juice.

auto batteries light up when you suck, manual batts have a button. 1 of each is nice to try

Shorty, I was just as confused as you were. What I finally did was select a supplier (not at random, I chose one based on reviews here, has their own Supplier forum on here, and also on the fact that they lived near me), then I emailed them. Fortunately, the supplier I dealt with took the time to explain the different "e-cigs" to me, and helped me determine which would best suit my needs -- all smokers are different.

I only hesitate to go into too much detail, because I don't want any of my posts mistaken as "advertising" which is a no-no on the New Members Forum.

I am not affiliated with any vendor or supplier. But I will say that there are many excellent suppliers here. It might be beneficial for you to check their forums if you have time.

Hi Shortyboo, I have been smoking an "e cigarette" since the first of April and no longer smoke any regular cigarretes, called "analogs" here. I did smoke 1 1/2 packs each day. I love my e-cig and dont even crave cigarettes. There is a large list of suppliers here with good explanations of the e-cig.

I have quit many, many times and always had such horrid withdrawls, even with the patch and gum. This really worked for me. Basically, you inhale vapor that simulates smoke. The e cig is a battery and atomizer that creates the vapor. (the vapor is created when the atomizer makes steam from the liquid in the cartridge, it gets the spark or heat from the battery) You can buy whatever flavor of cartridge you wish (prefilled in whatever nicotine strength you wish) and they can be refilled with more liquid.

At first I just bought cartridges but found it became somewhat expensive. Now, I just buy the liquid and refill my own. There is a MULTITUDE of great information on this forum and have found so much valuable info here. I was a bit shy about posting at first but have found the people here to be really nice and helpful. Most places ship right away. I would recommend you just jump in, ask questions and go for it!!
:)

One other thing to consider is if you're near a computer a lot a passthtru can be helpful(plugs directly into usb for constant power) or if you're on the go alot extra batts and/or maybe a pcc(personal charging case) can be very helpful. I was a 2-3 pack smoker, that really loves e-cigs so I have all of these myself..

You're doing the right thing....ask a lot of questions, and read. I started by buying my first set in a kiosk in Las Vegas.... BIG EXPENSIVE MISTAKE

I wasn't going to make the same mistake twice, so I was a long time lurker and glued to this site. then I started to see all the YouTube reviews and instructions.

Then I finally decided on one. Basically I don't know what a pack of cigs cost for you, for me averages $8 a pack, and I'm a pack a day smoker too. Marlboro menthol was my choice.

I started vaping more as a healthier alternative to smoking since I also have 2 children. They don't know I smoke.

Since then, I just naturally stopped buying cigs and ended up just vaping! I am one of those that have tried everything to quit, including hypnosis.

Anyway, a lot of info can be confusing too. Read the reviews that they have on the e-cig models.

1) Take note on how long the battery last. It can be irritating that you have to keep charging it if it only last a couple of hours.
2) Cost of extra batteries
3) Cartridges – it’s the disposable plastic mouth piece (the .... of your cig). It’s filled with a stuffing like the .... of your cig. Pre-filled means that it’s already pre-soaked with a liquid. Blank means that it’s a dry stuffing with nothing pre-filled.
4) Charger – usually comes with the starter kit
5) E-liquids, e-juice…some starter kits come with it and some don’t. You can experiment with different liquids later, once you purchased your basics (1 thru 4)
There’s menthol and mint that taste like menthol cigs. Nothing will be exactly like it. Sort of like changing from regular coke to diet coke.
You can re-use the disposable cartridges for a few days. Each time the cartridge gets dry, you add a few drops into the filling. After a few days, throw it away and get a new cartridge.
I smoke a pack a day, and I notice that a 30ml bottle last me for about a month. In the long run, it’s cheaper for me to vape.

I've decided to go with the Joye 510. I think I just have one more question. If the cartridges say "refillable" than how many times can you really refill them before you need to get a new one, or can you just keep refilling them forever?
the stuffing or polyfil gets old and thick after a few days and can be restuffed or just throw the cart away.. I use 1 or 2 a week cause they're cheap.

Hi,
I didn't see if anyone replied about the editing -- in case they didn't: it takes something like 15 posts here before you have the access to edit your own messages.

I don't have enough experience with e-cigs yet to have used both manual and automatic batteries -- automatic only. Some people have reported a strange 'sensitivity' in some brands of automatic batteries. Some activate just on being exposed to noise (or even wind). That doesn't happen to me, fortunately, and I don't think I've seen it reported for the model 510 that you got. (I hope I can try the manual batteries some time -- I just ordered a model called '801', which is said to have fairly long-lasting batteries; I wonder if anyone makes one of those 'PCC' chargers for it).

Some recent messages here show that new 510 users sometimes have trouble with their atomizers. It doesn't seem as if there's some general problem with the atomizers themselves; it's just a matter of learning how to work with them. If you don't like the taste at first, all is not lost! :) Post a message asking for advice -- from what I've seen, the problem is easily solved and you'll get some good advice on solving it. I betcha I'll run into that problem myself when I first start refilling the 801 cartridges and I'll no doubt be asking for advice, too...

After my first week, I took all my used carts and took out the polyfil, placed everything in a shallow bowl of rubbing alcohol and let them soak for about an hour... then took everything and rinsed it in a bowl of warm water twice (actually, on the second rinse, I put it all in a water bottle, put the lid on it and shook it). Let them drain/dry overnight, and I have since reused just about all of them. The polyfil kinda flies apart a bit (especially after being agitated in the water bottle), but I just smush some together and reuse 'em.

That's probably the cheapskatiest way to do it, but I'm kinda weak on cartridges right now and didn't want to waste any.
