Hi,

I'm a 27 year Newport Light Smoker & I need to quit due to health problems. I have been reading alot of reviews on e-cigs and I'm offically confused. I would like to get a e-cig that is easy to use, & won't break or fail within 3 months. I'm also looking for a company that sells both nicotine & non nicotine liquid (for the e-cig) that are somewhat similiar to Newport Lights. I was looking at the Blu & Greensmoke.

Hi calgirl, welcome to ECF and congrats on your decision. If you're looking for a cig sized PV the best one out there is the Volt at Smokeless Image | Only The Best Electronic Cigarette | Starter Kits . Understand the batts will not last as long as a Kgo or E-Power. Greensmoke sells rebranded PVs at a ridiculously high price- $100 kit can be bought elsewhere for around $40- STAY AWAY from them. Many have begun with the Blu but almost immediately move up to a better PV once they have joined ECF and discovered better models.

I'm so new to this...I don't know what a cig sized unit is ??

It is an ecig that is basically pretty much the size of a regular 100's cig.... Volt seems be be a good unit, I don't own one so I can't speak from experience. If it can be a bit bigger than a regular cigi, I'd suggest a KGO that you can get here: KGO (Riva) 1100mAh Electronic Cigarette Starter Kit - $49.95 among other suppliers. If you're willing to go even bigger - lavatube, Bomber, or a Provari but the Provari is pricey, which is keeping me from ordering one. I have 2 Lavatubes that I love but I don't know if you are willing to even try variable voltage yet or if you'd like to stay simple for now. :)
As far as Newport flavors, check out Myfreedomsmokes.com. They sell a Newport liquid, don't know if it's good, I got away from most of the tobacco flavors by now: Newport E-Liquid - MyFreedomSmokes.com

The Volt is an excellent choice for someone who want something roughly the size of a cigarette. Run, don't walk, away from Blu. Also, tread carefully if you go to Youtube for information. Youtube is chock full of e-cig shills, scammers, liars, noob2noob misinformation and hucksters. Until you know who to take seriously, who to trust and how to tell who is legit or not, it's best to avoid Youtube for recommendations. Save Youtube for "how-to" videos, not "what to buy" videos.

Virtually every (non-paid) veteran here will recommend a larger e-cig (kGo, Riva, eGo) for best performance and value. But if you absolutely must have something small and cig-like, most will recommend a Volt or the nearly identical Bloog, Halo G6 or Smoove. As it happens, the Volt is the least expensive option of the four, the juice is good, their customer service is top notch and they have frequent discount codes.

Calgirl: "Cig-sized" unit means one that is roughly the size of a cigarette. The Blu, Greensmoke and Volt fit into that category. In that category, it is generally accepted around here that Volt is heads and shoulders better than the others, and the company that sells them (Smokeless Image) is a reputable company too.

"PV" means Personal Vaporizer. All electronic cigarettes are PVs, whether the cig-sized units or the largest and most expensive advanced models. So don't let that throw you off.

If you can deal with something a little larger than a cigarette - about the size of a sharpie - you have more options and you get a better performing e-cig. The KGO is popular around here, and with good reason. It's inexpensive, simple, well made, works great and lasts all day. There is also the E-Power, various Ego models and others.

The terminology and abbreviations can be really confusing when you are just starting out. Don't hesitate to ask questions.

One other thing. A lot of us thought we needed juice that tasted like our preferred brand of cigarettes, and then many of us found out that we really didn't like tobacco flavored juices. I'm not familiar with Newports, but if they are menthol then go to the E-Liquids subforum here and you'll find a lot of recommendations for menthol flavored juices.

Thanks Everybody, any advice on which stater kit to get (Basic or Standard) & which flavor (Ice Menthol or Menthol) matches Newport Light.

Do NOT get the one with 1 battery. If you're going to do this, you need a minimum of 2 batteries. Also, when choosing your battery, pay the extra $1 for the "mega" sized. It will last nearly 50% longer and you'll soon appreciate how important that is. If your budget allows it, the kit with the charging case is recommended. Nothing will send you back to cigarettes quicker than a dead battery and you can only count on 3 hours or so between recharges with this type of e-cig.

One of the menthols is more "minty". I believe that's the Ice Menthol. Truth be told, NO e-cig juice closely matches the taste of ANY cigarette. That's just how it is, and if anyone tells you different they're lying or trying to sell you something. The best you can hope for is something that tastes like your favorite cig used to smell. You will get over that. Everyone does. In time, you will probably do what most of us do and lose your taste for tobacco. Your tastes will change dramatically as your taste buds recover. You might even find you don't like tobacco at all. Probably a majority of vapers don't vape tobacco or menthol flavors at all.

As for warnings about Youtube vids some are scams but there are also many highly regarded ECF members whom have posted some great vids....you just have to know who to trust and I based my first PV buy on Youtube vids AND other research tools. I can tell you you will get some very good advice here.
Good Luck.

Check out the "Info Zone" is at the top left corner of this web page, they have some good into info on what the different sizes and types are.

It seems overwhelming right now I know, I just started my research yesterday morning, after about 10 hours straight of reading and watching you tube vids I am starting to have a good handle on everything I think. I at least know what all the different parts, types, voltages, ohms are. Just keep reading and ask any questions you may have here, may want to wait until you have a short list of questions instead of posting 20 separate thread topics, that way the experts here can answer them all at once.

Also I too went with the Volt, from everything I read the quality on it is good. The batteries are a "regulated battery" which just means that it puts out the same amount of power from the first hit off of it, to the last. Cheaper batteries will not be regulated and will lose there power as the battery gets lower... so less vapor until you charge them.

Also everything I read is that Volt's cartomizers are high quality. (cartomizor is the cig filter sized peice that holds the e-juice and turns it into vapor with a llittle heating element inside of it)

You WILL want to refill your own cartos, its easy and will save you $.

Don't rule out the bigger PVs. Like you, I recently started out wanting something that resembled and felt like a cigarette. I tried a disposable, liked the concept and then ordered the closet I could find to a cigarette look and feel. It worked for a week or so, then I went to an eGo. That worked for another week or so but I wanted something more beefy so am now the proud owner of an Apollo variable volt. It's not exactly small but it's fantastic. I was initially put off as I'm quite a girly girl and all the PV users seemed to be macho men who love spouting technical things that go right over my head. I'm glad I second guessed myself and stepped up to a variable volt and wish I'd started out with one.

Also try samples of juices which all the online vendors seem to sell. It's a good introduction to the various tastes. I thought I wanted something that matched the Marlboro Lights I was smoking but in fact, what worked for me were vanilla and caramel flavors.

Probably a majority of vapers don't vape tobacco or menthol flavors at all.

Before I started vaping I didn't want all these crazy flavors. I just wanted a tobacco flavors. It didn't take me long to realize the opposite was true. Menthol though is a different animal. My wife smoked camel menthol silver. She pretty much has to have menthol. She has no sense of smell and for some reason she cannot taste any flavor I let her try. The menthol flavors are the only ones that can satisfy her and it has to be strong. I ended of having to get a super strong menthol from Vaporgod.com which I tried and it froze my throat.

Menthol is a must for me; Even though my many years as a pipe smoker didn't involve menthol at all, it seems now my vaping has to have a big menthol kick. Otherwise, it's dull and boring for me.

I've found a mix of vanilla and menthol is my all day vape and when I try to mix up other 'flavors', they just don't do it for me.
