As some of you know, my wife and I have a home for women who are in recovery from addiction, trauma, abuse etc. At this time we have 6 women, 4 of whom are smokers.

I saw an old friend on a thread today and he mentioned that he hadn’t seen an update for awhile. I hang out and browse a lot and check in from time to time … so here ya go.

It's been almost a year since UntamedRose brought my noobie post into this PIF forum. Jules welcomed us in with open arms and all of the folks at PIF responded so kindly.

Through the generosity of the amazing people in this forum, we have received donations of ecig kits, cartos, juice and cash to allow us to introduce e-cigarettes to the women and keep them going for a short time. They can't afford to get started so this was a huge help. (Of course they are used to paying for cigarettes and they know that they’ll have to pay for their own maintenance and are held accountable for that.)

Over the past months, every smoker in our home, except one, has tried the e-cigarettes. As you may expect, we have quite a turn-over of women here. We’ve given out at least 15 kits. (I’ve lost count) They all have enthusiastically embraced them at first. Some continue to use them and some have quit analogs completely. Many of the ladies have moved on and they take the kits with them. Some of them are still living with us.

The house smells so much better. They are not allowed to smoke in the house but the smell of smoke on their clothes was getting overwhelming. Now their clothes and hands (and breath) are so much better.

Just yesterday one of our newest residents came in hollering for me. She says “I love this thing. I can smoke on the bus and people are asking me what it is and how it works….” We were able to determine the right nicotine level for her and some favorite types of flavors. She’s big on fruity flavors.

Another one of our ladies was down to mostly zero nic in 1 week. She just loves the PV so much that she found she didn’t need much nicotine at all.

Thanks so much to UntamedRose for getting us started, Jules for welcoming us so graciously, BiancaMontgomery for your sweet kindness and emotional support, LoriKay13 and the BadGirls for your loving heart and donations, Zbasspro and yssiM for your love filled “joose” (and your prayers), ….. and generosity from cskent, Bonniegirl, CobaltBlue, SpaceKitty, LowThudd, BigChief, Nyxie, DemonCowboy, Vchick, Rippspeed, BigBlue30, and so many more that are not named either by request or because I’ve lost track of you.

I think one of the things that blesses the ladies so much is that someone out there cares enough to respond like this. They are personal recipients of your kindness. Since it is personal and not some type of "gov't program" it is received with a lot of gratitude and humility by our ladies. This is consistent with the type of home we run. The gov't does not provide any assistance to a home like ours. The women are pretty amazed that you would do this. You all have been amazing in the response to our program.

I’ve tried to keep this short but if you have any questions feel free to ask… Or just say hi.

Warm blessings to all of you.

Wow this gave me happy little chills! I too have struggled with addiction - have been clean & sober just over a year, and smoke free 6 months on April 1st. It is SO huge to have support during this time of change, it's what makes success possible. To say I applaud you in this is a vast understatement. I wish there was something I could do to help (no income right now) but for now you and the ladies there are in my prayers and as I give my daily thanks to my HP you will be included. Bless you!

Wow, could it have really been a year already? I remember that first post, and the excitement I thought it brought to PIF members to help out. It's amazing what you're doing for these women, God bless you and your wife!! ♥

(since it's been a year, it doesn't mean I am really a year older.. right? :S)

In my OP, I was going by my join date.... but I forgot about my lurking phase.

I don't remember the timing but I was a member hanging around reading everything I could for quite a while before I actually posted.
Originally I heard an ad on the radio for a free stop-smoking device which turned out to be a scam to get my credit card. I didn't fall for it.

During the learning phase after joining ICF, I went on Craigslist and purchased an ecig from a local vendor so that I could 'see' it and put my hands on it ... got excited about it then discouraged then read some more and then excited again. Then I posted sometime after that. I don't have that original post but it looks like early to mid August.
So the dates of my early post and my ECF join date won't match up.

Thanks to all of the continued encouragement and support.

I myself ended up in a Government run woman's shelter after an abusive relationship when I was in my early 20s. One that left me 2 options to stay with him or be homeless with a child in tow. I smoked then (wish the e cig had been around) the government home's solve to all my financial needs was to secure my income and allot me my cash as I needed. Naturally as they saw it cigarettes where not a need. So cigs were forbidden for me to buy with my cash. And no replacement therapy given BTW. Needless to say friend helped me find ways around the rules and I was supplied for my addiction's needs regardless. I continued to be addicted for some 14 years more.........

I'm overwhelmed by your kindness and understanding. I wish you ALL well over there. Keep us updated, and post those needs I'd like to help the women at some point too....
