My husband and I discovered a whole new benefit to my quitting smoking today. When we bought this house 2.5 yrs ago, we looked into getting a security system for it, but just couldn't quite manage the monthly monitoring fee, so we put the idea on the shelf for the indefinite future.

Today an ADT guy shows up at the door, a "promotional" guy who offered us free equipment, free installation, waived activation fee because my husband is a veteran, and a monthly monitoring fee of just $42 a month, and considering that I used to spend $176/mo for cigarettes, $42 seems entirely doable. So we went for it.

In the course of my initial conversation with him this afternoon, I observed that we have more budget than we used to, because I recently quit smoking. He congratulated me, and asked how I did it? I said "e-cigarettes." His face lit up like a lantern, big grin, and he says "Me too! 8 weeks ago!" And he shows me his volcano e-cig. So naturally I showed him my sigelei+kayfun, the size of which seemed to entirely blow his mind. I felt like the guys sitting on the group W bench. :D

He came back later to speak to both my husband and myself, which is when we decided to go ahead and go for this deal; he mentioned he was having a hard time finding good e-juice, said he used to smoke Newports. So I looked up my favorite site for e-juice, MyFreedomSmokes, and they have one called "Harbor Menthol", many reviews of which says it's the most like Newports they ever tasted; I gave him a card for MFS, and he said he would definitely look that up online. Gave him a card for DesertVapes too, which is where I got such a fantastic price on my Sigelei. When he left, he went out to get an ADT sign, and he says to the guy he's riding with "show her your e-cigarette!" :D He had an Evod Twist or Winder or whatever it is.

We're everywhere!

I love this story. I haven't seen a vaper in the wild yet but I do vape in public (IMO appropriately for the situation) and I hope to be that person in the "wild" who can answer questions, or maybe just affirm to another person that Vaping is OK and not just a fringe thing.

I can imagine how excited you were (him too!).

Absolutely! When he came in, he's sitting here at the kitchen table talking to us, and he sees my huge mess of vapegear all over the counter, and his eyes got huge at the number of PVs and tanks and every other damn thing -- wire and wick and needlenose pliers and you know, the whole shebang. It was all over the place because I got my new M-tank today and never had tidied up after playing with that. :D He also mentioned seeing guys vaping, blowing those "monster clouds" and that he has no interest in doing that. I mentioned that it's the VG that causes the monster clouds, but that higher PG would give thinner, more "normal" clouds, but also a lot more taste and throat hit, and he seemed completely amazed by all this info. Maybe at the sites I gave him cards for (MFS and DesertVapes), he'll see the ECF banner, and come on in here and join us. Nice kid (says the middle aged lady of any person under 30!), said he was originally from Miami.

VAPE ON!! :D

Hey there stranger. How ya doin'? Isn't it wonderful to have others who know how we feel and are as enthusiastic as we are? I just love it. Been a year now since I had a real cigarette and I can honestly say........it hasn't cross my mind. :)

Sometimes it crosses my mind... as in, "oh my god, I don't smoke anymore! IT'S A MIRACLE!!! SAY HALLELUJAH!!!"

And one reason I'm so excited, you'll note from my sig, today is 11 weeks smoke free! I'm getting close to 3 months, and that is so cool; I once lasted 3 months doing "cold turkey," but I was so miserable I just couldn't stand another minute without a cigarette, and gave in. That was 1984. Now it's nearly 3 months, 30 yrs later, and this time, no misery! :rickroll:

Great story! Similar thing happened to me a few weeks ago. My truck died on me on my way home about 11:30 at night. I called AAA and when the tow truck driver showed up I was vaping my Kayfun topped Provari he lit up and pulled out his mod with a patriot rba and we spent the next 30 minutes talking all things vape. We forgot all about my truck for awhile!

I am glad that vaping has given you more money. Im the complete opposite lol..........I buy WAYY too much stuff because I think every new piece of gear is so cool and I just have to have it. I think I have a disease.

I've been that way to some extent, but mainly because I was so new, and needed a lot of stuff just to have a basic stash, and also wanting to try different devices and ways of doing things, to see what I like best. I'm completely sold on building and rebuilding coils now; I doubt I'll ever buy anymore replacement coils. Not sure how much use my T3S collection will get, now that I have a Kayfun, and just ordered a Caterpillar RDA, but I have a PT II Mini, and a Hypertank2, and those will get used. Now and then. :D

But in terms of hardware, there are just a couple things I want to get when we finally get our fed refund, but I'm pretty well set; most of my "regular" (per paycheck) purchases will be wire, e-juice, cartos, etc. So I really doubt my high level of buying will continue. For one thing, we're always a bit flush in the spring, because my husband has a few people he does weekend landscaping work for, and they pay well, but that won't continue much longer. By mid-June, it'll be so hot nobody will want to do anything with their yard but sit in the air-conditioning and admire it, :D and we'll be back to paycheck to paycheck. But at least those paychecks won't have to support that $176/mo habit anymore. :thumb:

I had monitoring at one time. False alarms caused me to rethink it all. I found out that a dog or two serves the purpose better and the dogs will love you back.

Of course, the upside to a security system is that it won't crap on your carpet.

Can't get a dog till we have a fence round the backyard, because neither of us wants to do "walkies" everytime the dog needs a leak. A fence would run us more than $42/mo even if we financed it, and wouldn't be nearly as effective against home invasion, nor would the small dog we have in mind -- a dachshund or a corgi. We can't afford to feed a large dog, and it might try to eat the cat. :D "Try" being the operative word, and then we'd need a vet to sew up the dog's slashes. That cat hides from other people (other than us), but don't take no stuff off dogs. :D
