I just posted this in Wrecked and Bonkers, but thought it should go here too. I bought the new Skechers shape-up fitness shoes.
_________

WOW! So often the commercials just can't be trusted but not in this case.

I have fibromyalgia (lots of pain in my muscles) and arthritis, especially in my right hip when I walk any big store like a walmart. If an electric cart is available, I will use it. But being in Florida (and now with the snowbirds down for the season), finding one is difficult.

The shape-ups intrigued me, not for the claims of helping you lose weight or increasing your fitness level dramatically, but for the fact that they are so cushioned. I used to walk on in indoor track in Ohio (finding one of those in Florida is impossible). Because of the give of the track, I could walk without pain. So I was hoping that these shoes would emulate that type of track.

They do!!!!! I bought them yesterday, so my hip was already hurting from the drive to the store (about 80 minutes roundtrip), walking to get to the Skechers store in a mall, walking in Target to get footies to wear with the new shoes. My last stop was one of the new, fairly large Bealls stores...I wore the new shoes there...my hip was hurting from before but I walked without a limp!!! I can't wait to try them out in Walmart.

They aren't cheap (anywhere from 89 to 110, depending on the style), they aren't pretty (I got the Mary Janes...hate tied shoes)...but if I can walk with less pain, it's worth it. I might even be able to walk for fitness for the first time in years.

By the way, they're the only pair of shoes that come with its own CD, lol. You have to build up your time on them. At first they feel very funny because of the rocker-style sole but it doesn't take any time to get used to them.

I recommend them to anyone who has trouble walking.

Great review! I am interested in them for fitness walking and might have to give them a try after I save up enough $$!

Thanks for the review on these....been looking at them awhile and haven't yet talked myself into spending that kind of money on them. Do post on how they do at Walmart, that store quite often puts a hitch in my get-a-long.

Tilly, I did Walmart yesterday...these shoes are truly a miracle!

I had some fibromyalgia pain in my right buttock but the hip didn't hurt.

Nowwwwwww...do start a walking regime for fitness. Haven't been able to do that for years.

Thanks SudokuGal! I do believe that will be my birthday present this year....still have to somewhat justify the cost....hub will say get them if you want them and I'll say nah, you can get them for my birthday.

My friend's daughter (who is in her mid 30s) call my MaryJanes "old lady" shoes. Actually I don't think they look that bad...but maybe that's because I'm becoming an old lady, lol.

I walked all of a Super Target yesterday...I still can't get over the amazement that these shoes really help me walk. Again, I had fibromyalgia pain but no arthritis pain!!

My husband gifted me with a pair of Chung Shi sneakers that have a rolling effect. You must start at the heel and walk towards the toe.

It does slow the walking. I was a very fast walker, but these shoes are not meant for power walking.

I've was a walker for quite a few years, but haven't been because of changes in life's habits. These shoes are so therapeutic, and they force you to keep your back straight and your neck erect. I had a bad habit of keeping my head down, probably because someone told me in my younger years to watch for money that was dropped on the pavement.

So now, with these shoes, I have little or no back pain as I do have osteopenia.

Thanks for the review! I had heard something about these but was leary of spending so much money. I have been trying to walk at the 'Y' if I can find parking but I haven't walked in years so 3 laps are killing me. First my calves are mooing then my back starts hurting. I've managed 2 miles is all. My feet don't hurt at all though. These are supposed to help with your back too? I don't walk real fast anyway...at least not yet.

I have been wearing the Reebok Easy Tone tennis shoes for a while, which also have the "off balance" sole. The Easy Tones look more like a regular sneaker though, and have balance ball technology instead of the rocker soles. I love them and they have been giving me the same relief from joint and back pain as you are having with your Shape Ups! Just an idea for an alternative. I paid $99 for mine.
