I got my first ecig yesterday, - a super mini from Smart Fixx..not sure which model it is, tho - and I've been crying over in the new user area where I found some good support to get me through those scary first hours. lol

I ordered welcome kit from Johnson Creek last Friday, but it looks like they're not very fast when it comes to shipping. I got some med. & high menthol carts with the ecig but I am I am not thrilled with them.

It was suggested to me that I add my location to my profile, which I did, and see if I can find out if anyone close to me sells juice or maybe I could find out which supplier is closest so I could order and get it before the JC.

I've read through the recipe threads, and but there's so much info and I don't want to screw this up since I only have 2 batteries and one atomizer.

I love vanilla cigarettes, and I am wondering if I can add a little something to these menthol carts to make them work better for me. I'd like a strong vanilla flavor. I read about the lorann flavors and from what I've read it looks like PG is something that will probably have to be ordered, that glycerine is an acceptable substitute. I am wondering if I can use a drop or two of a bottle of flavoring I had on the shelf. It's just cheap WalMart stuff, but here are the ingredients:

Water
Propylene Glycol
Vanillin, Caramel Color
0.1% Sodium Benzoate (preservative)
Phosphoric Acid
Ethyl Vanillin

Would this be ok to use as is (I'll bet that's a no) or is it something I could add glycerine to?

If not, is there something I could pick up at the grocery store until I have something better? I don't think I have a store that carries the Lorann brand, so is there another option?

I have read about using poly-fill for the cart filler. If I wanted to try some no-nic just for the flavor do I just take out the filter thing in one I already have (or use the empty one that was on the ecig) and then add drops of whatever solution to it? I watched the new user video (an excellent resource!) and if I remember right, you start with 2-3 drops, but not so much that it looks like liquid is laying on top. Saturated, but not flooded?

Ok, sorry for so many questions, but I am so anxious to get going.

Thanks....everyone in this forum is so helpful and even thought this looks like a simple process from the outside, when you actually get one it's hard not to feel like an idiot. 8-o

JMA,

Welcome to ECF!

I called a local cake supplier in your area and, as fate would have it, they do not carry LorAnns, but the lady did give me this shop for you to try:

Mama Jeans Health Food Store - 417-831-5229

Tha lady said that they are relatively new in your area but have a great reputation. She said that they have items like that available.

I hope that helps. Best wishes - mama

I know what you mean! There is tons of great information here. Trying to get it all in in order to get started is overwhelming. And really for me it came down to a combination of trial and error on my part and coming back here for even more information. I still can't get away from this place! Not that I want to.

I LOVE vanilla so I spent some time looking into it. Finding the right vanilla seems to be a tricky thing. I read that someone had tried vanilla extract and vanillin and it ended up tasting nasty burnt. The color is very dark and wondered if that was actually burning on the atomizer, causing that burnt taste.

Some craft stores sell Lorann's but for me I wasn't so lucky. I found Wilton's but only in butter flavor which was not something I wanted. I'm not sure, it may have been oil based as well which is a no no. If you go out hunting, I suggest you look in the candy making, cake making section.

When filling a fresh cartridge you will indeed want to get the filling wet but not so much that it's pooled at the top. My 901 takes about 6 drops on a fresh cartridge. I have to top off frequently which requires 2 or 3 drops when the vapor starts to taste like it's drying out. If I do accidentally add too much that the liquid pools on the top I just take a portion of a napkin and wick a tiny bit of liquid off the top.

Since you like vanilla, look for the Vanilla Ice Cream bottle in your JC kit. I recommend you use a new blank cart (should be included in the kit).

I suspect you have a mini style (looks like a regular cigarette instead of a pen) based on you talking about an empty cart that came with your vaporizer. You might want to take apart one of your other carts, and I think you'll find there's an inner plastic cup. That keeps the juice out of your mouth. I think the empty cart it just for dripping. So if you want to use fresh batting, I think you'd be better off taking the filling out of one of your other carts.

When you fill the carts or top them off, you want the liquid to be concave, not convex. If it's rounded over, you put in too much and need to wick some away with a paper towel or something. You can also stick an unbent paper clip down the side, to squish the batting. When you pull it out it should sop up more of the liquid.
