Hey man lets walk the lot and maybe somebody will miracle us! But first I gotta run through shutdown and see this guy about a thing real quick!
Clearly, I didn't read the rest of the thread earlier...
Clark has some history...
'67. We gotta meet up one day, you have stories I need to hear!
We are good peopleIt was the unintentional plan from the start!
VERY nice of you to include Mr Hornsby...he was integral in a painful transition! And rocked the accordion on a few tunes!
dna pretty much agrees with ya wandering!
Please don't get me started on the ticket fiasco!
I know what you mean about the thing real quick...but it would take jesus himself to produce a miracle ticket at that show! They are like $3500 now...just ridiculous...
Nothing personal grover, but Trey can go f himself...Jimmy Herring or fake Jerry (John Kadlecik from DSO) or Warren Haynes would have been the TOP 3 picks for these gigs! I'm not sure how much Trey paid the boys to be included, but it was enough that it formed a new revenue stream for the Dead.
/rant off...sorry, I'm pretty emotional about their pick to cover the lead part of their production....(freakin' phish)
I'll be sure to crank a thread up in the lounge when I find out who'll be streaming the shows. There is no way that they are shutting down the couch tour on these final shows...at the very least, they will be producing a revenue stream through Sirius XM and doing a live stream.
Great digression to the thread!![]()
Just look out for those 2 dudes in brand new tie-dyes tucked into their khakis wearing ear pieces. Something not right about them LOL
Man I liked you before but I really really really like you now. I am not a fan of Phish, at all. I feel the same way about Trey. That soulless vampire was the worst decision. I'd take a hologram of Jerry with pre-recorded solos from '83 over that dude. All those guys you listed would've been better too. I personally would've liked to see Warren but what can you do? I more than likely wont be going. No one I know wants to go LOL. I saw more shows in '91 than any other year and yeah, Hornsby killed it in '91. Wasnt a fan of the squeeze box myself but he definitely kicked it up a notch. He would tease Dark Star almost every night. Check out the Giants Stadium show from 6-17-91. 1st set Dark Star tease for about 2 minutes before Bobby cuts it off and goes into Masterpiece. You can hear about 50,000 people throw theirs hands up in disgust. 2 other DS jams in the 2nd set too I believe.
We might need our own corner to discuss this further, things might get out of hand here LOL
Closing of the summer run in Denver that year we had that SAME DS tease reaction...
Shaneguide and I have a thread in the Lounge call the Jam Band Thread...perfect place to talk about this stuff! Too bad I can't link it![]()
The way Widespread Panic is kick in' right now, my vote goes to The White Wizard aka Jimmy
Spoken like a true hippieThank you guys for all the Dead talk. Sitting here right now listening to their 12-28-70 El Monte Legion Stadium show. Sure bringing back some wonderful memories and some memories I wish I could remember. I think some of us older guys know what I mean.

dude... jimmy w/ wsp is just amazing! best wsp shows ive ever seen were w/ him. granted im not as old as some of you. (born in 79) but ive been to more spread shows than any other jam band.. and once they got jimmy i was like... holy sh!!!... still remember them covering sympathy for the devil for the first time in like 15 years... and they freaking destroyed it....
the extra bonus was at the time one of my clients was a former producer for WSP.. so i got incredible tickets (dont worry i was still in the lawn most of the time... bc the lawn is where its at.. i need space to cut my rug!) also got back stage and even more exclusive passes to go literally anywhere in the venue... got to meet the band a couple times... have drum sticks from shows.. autographed shirts and badges... what a wild lucky thing it was to come across that client..

That pic pretty much sums it up...Music, to me, is able to change my mood, brighten my day, and transport me to far away lands. The Dead are great for all of these things, and always a lot more. Sometimes the Deads music could even change the weather for me, making the sun shine through the clouds, or even change the season from winter to summer.

music is more powerful than any drug ive encountered for changing and even forcing certain emotions. its amazing that i can be having the worst day ever.. listen to certain songs.. and be bopping around w/ a poop eating grin on my face just being soo happy.
to me the grateful dead are the best band of all time. its bc of how it affected people... people loved the dead so much.. that they would abandon their normal lives to follow them around everywhere they went. they certainly dont have the most $ in records sold.. or concert ticket rates (until lately!!)..
take some of the accepted top bands.. beatles.. stones... both are awesome.. but did they truly grab the heart and soul of their fan base as hard as someone like the dead? absolutely not... the beatles or stones were never a lifestyle.. but the dead were and to some extent still are.
im sure i had to be there.. admittedly.. i wasn't even a gleam in my fathers eye yet... but i just don't see it affecting people as deeply to where they completely changed their life over it.
this is all of course looking backwards and not knowing. i totally agree that the beatles affected more people... it just doesn't seem like the people affected.. were AS devoted.
