Its a reference to a song by the band Rush.
Its about a boy who goes to his Uncles country farm to drive an old car after automobiles (combustion engines) are made illegal.

Thanks Pyrate! I think they've been linked to libertarian type ideas too, iirc. I have one of their cds.

Its one of my favorite songs. I always play it when on long drives.

And yes, Neil Peart (the drummer and lyricist) is a Libertarian if I remember correctly

Hey, thanks! That would be a good driving song. And I have heard it before. I play guitar and sometimes lyrics get lost on me. I use Skynyrd for long drives but mainly listen to blues - a good medium for guitars. :)

glad i could spark some memories :)

(sorry, fell out a lil early last night.. but i still stand by the adage that Sam Adams is ALWAYS a good decision ;)).

and yes Peart's a Libby. and yes, rock 'n' roll is definitely a drummer's game, as is techno, my current medium, but i grew up with Rush, Zep, Sabbath. once fell asleep during Bob Seeger after getting what i came for, which was to see Rush open.. NEVER have Rush open for you, the crowd will be spent!

and i did send the OP's vid (and this thread) to Lew Rockwell, perchance for him to blog it. he totally needs to, and it would bring scores of libertarians to this site, which would be a good thing. though i think we're already well-represented here :)

All I ask is that you consider the suggestion here or these dingbats will eliminate all our rights as citizens.

The entire Congress of the United States is corrupt. And I mean both Houses and I mean both major parties.

I realize that a few Members of each House are trustworthy, but, as a group they are absolutely the most corrupt bunch to ever disgrace our Nation.

In November of 2010 the entire House of Representatives will stand for re-election; all 435 of them. One third of the Senate, a total of 33 of them, will also stand for re-election. Vote every incumbent out.

And I mean every one of them. No matter their Party affiliation. Let's start all over in the House of Representatives with 435 people who have absolutely no experience in running that body, with no political favors owed to anyone but their own constituents. Let's make them understand that they work for us..

They are answerable to us and they simply have to run that body with some common sense.

Two years later, in 2012, vote the next third of the incumbents in the Senate out.

We can do the same thing in 2014 and, by that time we will have put all new people in that body as well.

We, the People, have got to take this Country back and we HAVE to do it peacefully.

That's what the Framers of our Constitution envisioned.

I am also suggesting term limits on the NEW BUNCH --8 YEARS FOR REPRESENTATIVES AND 12 YEARS OF SENATORS. NO EXCEPTIONS. THE LONGER THEY STAY IN OFFICE THE MORE POWER THEY GET AND THEY LOVE IT AND WILL DO ANYTHING TO GET RE-ELECTED.

WE HAVE TERM LIMITED THE PRESIDENT -- NOW LET'S TERM LIMIT THE LEGISLATORS.

Please, if you love this Country, send this (as I have done) to absolutely everyone whose email address appears in your address book..

This thing can permeate this Country in no time. Let's make it happen.**

VOTE THE POWER ABUSERS OUT........LET'S TAKE AMERICA BACK !!!!!!!!!

IF YOU LIKE THE WAY THINGS ARE GOING IN OUR COUNTRY, THEN DO NOTHING.........

my intent exactly, ttoll. i normally shy away from social conservative Repubs, but my rep, Ron Klein (D) is a total drug warrior and corporate shill, so i'll vote for whomever runs against him, just as i voted for him to unseat the uber-entrenched Shaw, who was even worse. and if his replacement is no better i'll do the same to them.

there's a group called VOID (Vote Out Incumbents for Democracy) which is dedicated to this very cause, spread that around too.

I rarely enter political discussions (or religious ones,) but I do feel strongly that one of the most viable ways to affect change in this country is to change your registration to independent.

What is currently hamstringing our representative government is the entrenched two-party system; something that was never planned by the founding fathers, nor could they have imagined it, else they would have designed something to stop it.

The result of the two-party system is that each party need only front a candidate who can get ellected, not one who can govern. As long as we the people believe our vote does not count unless we are either "A" or "B", both "A" and "B" win. They focus on wresting and maintaining power, not on representing their constituents.

A large increase in registered independents would send fear into both parties. They could no longer count on their base to do as they are told. Both parties would be forced to field candidates with a broader, more representative appeal.

The beauty of registering as an independent is that you need not give up or compromise any of your current political ideals, or even change the way you vote, for that matter. But what is does do, is send a clear message to BOTH parties, that "My vote can not be counted on, or bought, (or sold.) My vote needs to be earned."

So just wanted to share with everyone that this guy is really awesome. He actually discovered the e-cig forum through this post lol. We've talked and he was happy I shared his video with you guys :D.

I think he wanted me to clear a few things up, hes not a vapor or a smoker. He's also neither Republican or a Democrat. He's independent with Libertarian leanings.

Now how many of you got that one right? lol!

All I can say is he's really cool and I hope he continues making more videos on other rants.

What is sad is that this country became the greatest country ever seen in 200 years...only 200 years. BECAUSE we had limited government and we the people controlled our own lives and we the people were happy (FOR THE MOST Part) but ever since the great depression our government has taken more and more control...tiny bit by tiny bit like this law....we now more closely resemble all those other governments in Europe for example than we do our country when it was founded. We founded this country to get away from that kind of opression....and now it's all coming back. makes me heart broken.

Hi there all, I am a Brit like PlanetScribbles and so I possibly am not really entitled to post in this thread. I just want to start by agreeing with Scribbles that for a city council to refuse to offer jobs to workers because they test positive for nicotine would not be allowed here in Britain if it is not a banned substance, then you cannot be discriminated against for using it......

I have read this thread with interest as I could see the scenario that if the US ban e-cigs, then Britain would almost certainly follow suit... so it is something that does concern me......

I had to laugh at ladysolitary85's comments on gun marches.... I did not realise by taking up a PV I had to become an armed revolutionary.... :D

Just one thing I would like to suggest if you guys have a couple of hours spare one evening.... stock up with coffee, carts and probably a pass through and watch zeitgeist the movie.... It is a little bit of a slow start, but it is a movie that had me glued to the edge of my seat. It does cover several different areas, and one is government.... I would be interested in what you guys think of it....... (btw, tis a free video on google videos......)

I am seriously considering joining the UK chapter of The Zeitgeist Movement..... Maybe I am a revolutionary after all :w00t:

As far as the New York bits of the film, I can confirm some of the evidence.... anyone wants to know what I mean, just PM me.........

LOL Leonardo your safe in England so no worries about a gun march :) and besides I was joking on that, I don't think people would go that far!

Its just I really hate how submissive us Americans are now a days.

As Benjamin Franklin would say: "Someone who gives up their freedom for temporary security deserves neither freedom or security"... or along those lines :D

I just want to add "I Love you Guys" to this discussion.

I have been on my soapbox for months before I came here. Most people (even regular smokers) just don't really care. They think it's dumb..but nobody gets fired up.

I was smoking maybe a few cloves a month, and I was enraged... everyone else was just "meh".

I come here and see that something like vaping could be under attack, and it just sucks the life out of me.

I recently had to break the news to my best friends wife that she will no longer be able to buy her favorite Cig. I'ts a Camel Chocolate flavor she always had the hard pack so I don't know if they came in soft pack or not. I bumbed one off of her just to try one day and it wasn't bad.

I am a Political Athiest so I don't bow to any group. I also don't vote as a protest. The day I can vote for none of the above I will consider it. I did work for the Ron Paul Campaign but not because I believe in our broken system but because I felt that he was doing a good job of waking people up.

We are loosing our freedom every day and this is just another example of how they take our rights away one step at a time.

This is my first post on this site but I have been lurking for a couple weeks. I'm waiting on a 510 pack to show up from Hong Kong. The typical kit and added 50mg of Menthol and 50mg of apple 54$ delivered. Next order will be for mega batteries and a passthrough probably some attys, and possibly a PCC.

Thanks for all the advice and Let's keep our country free, or at least try and take it back.

I don't see the point of this, don't they still sell flavored tobacco? So if you were so inclined to smoke flavored cigarretes, couldn't you just roll your on flavored cigarettes? Even if they don't it's not impossible to add the flavoring yourself.

I think its under the guise of marketing, and thats the angle. That the cherry flavors etc. appeal to underage smokers. Of course that never stopped me from smoking camel bare-asses when I was a kid.

The real problem is that Big Tobacco doesn't market a lot of those flavored smokes, which is probably why menthols weren't touched.

I've heard buzz around that they will eventually go after cigars/pipe tobacco (Cloves are now being sold as mini-cigars) then that only leaves hookah tobacco and tobacco flavoring juices.

I found some wording, but not sure how up to date it is:

Beginning 3 months after the date of enactment of the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act, a cigarette or any of its component parts (including the tobacco, filter, or paper) shall not contain, as a constituent (including a smoke constituent) or additive, an artificial or natural flavor (other than tobacco or menthol) or an herb or spice, including strawberry, grape, orange, clove, cinnamon, pineapple, vanilla, coconut, licorice, cocoa, chocolate, cherry, or coffee, that is a characterizing flavor of the tobacco product or tobacco smoke.

To me this it means they cant sell it flavored, but 3rd party flavoring is still okay?

I don't imagine it would be tough to ban flavoring though, especially if its marketed as such. That seems way easier to market to kids than 9$ a pack clove imports.

No, they don't still sell flavored tobacco.

I was RYO vanilla tobacco smoker when the ban went into effect, and I lost my ability to purchase loose, flavored tobacco. I agree whole-heartedly with this guy's views. Enforce the law we had, don't create yet another one that robs us of the very principals upon which this once great country was founded.

btw: I believe that we can again be a great country, but not until we figure out how to stop sliding down this hill and remember why the settler's came here to begin with.
