A Peter K tool?

I was thinking it would be nice if atty makers included a tool for doing the PK coil/wick. A tool steel drill rod with the proper diameter for making the coil and sleeve on the rod that has the proper length and ID to gauge your rolled wick. If the sleeve/handle was made of brass it would look sweet and would be easier on the wick. Just a thought, it would be a nice little touch to have a tool the exact size needed for your atty.

i have a cheapo mini screwdriver set with like 10 SC's in it from harbor freight so far it has something for every geni i used.
if they included something its just another reason to raise the price and something else to lose

Mine is a nail, don't know my nail sizes but it's about 3 mm diameter, i did polish is with real fine emory cloth though

I like the idea of a knob/handle on one end.

Best part about a drill bit, that would be exceptionally easy to make. Could put different sizes on each side or something too.



The screwdrivers that came with my A7 can be used in a pinch but they are too small for general use.

Also kind of want to make a nicer oval form, as two tooth picks works but leaves something to be desired.

I use a dart. Just the first thing I found laying around that was the right size.

I've got bamboo skewers that are a perfect fit for the AGA-T. Then, when the wick is just right to fit the coils, there's a slight gap between the wick & the wick hole.

Step 1 - find rod of exact dia. of wick hole.
Step 2 - Chop it to size.
(I made mine the exact length that the wick would have to be, not including handle portion)
OMGZ wick length tool, and coil wrapping tool!
Step 3 - Get some JB Weld and make a handle on the leftover portion of said rod.
Step 4 - Drill hole same dia. as wick hole into a portion of the JB Weld.
(now you have a wick diameter gauge!)
Step 5 - Enjoy the fact that you have just made something useful.

This tool will be everything you need to make a wick and coil without having to disrupt the set-up of your current genesis style tank!

It would probably work best as a "set" with different diameter pieces, because of the amount of variation in wick sizes between different set-ups and devices. I like the idea, though (even if I don't use the method most of the time).

For me, the trickiest part isn't the finished diameter or length. It's how much mesh to cut before I roll it up.

There's this one. But I haven't found that it works for me. PV Web Apps
I like to fold the outer edge of the mesh over, before I roll it. So trimming it is a pain.

i like the tool idea. adding in a tool to an RBA kit would greatly improve the initial experience. i tried using part of a wire coathanger to no avail. it was too skinny. so i wrapped some tape around it to make it larger. the tape was squishy and i couldnt slide the wire off. searched high and low for something of the right size around the house and office. nothing. i eventually caved and purchased a set of drill bits. so glad i did. adding the tool off the bat would have made things much easier for me. then again, if they start adding tools, will they have to pay Petar K royalties?

I would say that including a took is over kill, it would add unnecessary cost to the product.

I still believe that rebuildables, should be left to those that know how to use them.
And if you're a newbie trying to learn, making your own tool would cost less than a few $'s... IF you so choose to make a coil with the PK method.

If slapping a gob of JB-Weld to a drill bit is too complicated, wrapping a coil is the least of your worries

I'm all for helping out fresh blood, but holding someone's hand from start to finish is always a bad approach.

I've received many sob stories about genesis tanks in person and through PM's, and after long struggles, i end up sending them a link to carto tanks, the genesis isnt for everyone...
being honest is always the best route.

The idea of making coils and wicks ahead of time is what got me thinking about this. If the rod was non conductive and heat resistant you could even fire it on the tool to lock in the shape. All it would take would be a battery. The gauge for the wick is something I hadn't seen mentioned before and thought it would help quite a bit.

Is it torched with the shaft still inserted in the coil?

thats what i do, i pull the kanthal tight, give it a quick torch, and they stay.

then i make the wick, feed it through the coils, and i have a wick & coil ready to go.

works for me, YMMV.

That's how I did it when I put a mesh wick in my Terminator as I couldn't figure any other way to maintain the right tension, but it was a one time thing.
But of coarse the coil/wick was not installed yet
