I propose a petition of sorts here on this thread to ask Mr. Hon Lik of the Ruyan Company (the father of the modern electronic cigarette) and my personal hero, to join us here on ECF.

That is, if he is still associated with:

The first automobiles were failures. Does that mean the inventors didn't invent them first, just because they didn't sell or are now dead?

Non the less, I feel there is a large difference between coming up with something and actually doing something with it.

Had Ruyan not acted this could still be collecting dust in a patent office.

Don't you mean Herbert Gilbert?

Yes, his invention pre-dates Mr. Lik's but it is Mr. Lik's invention which is the basis for the modern e-cig. Both men certainly deserve our praise and thanks. Not sure if Mr. Gilbert is alive, though he might be. If someone has an email address for him, we can send him something as well (if he's not already on the forum).

So this thread is about our giving thanks and showing our admiration and support, particularly for Mr. Lik, but also for Mr. Gilbert. Join me in saying thanks.

Actually, the first automobiles were steam driven. Unless someone is a car nut, they wouldn't recognize any of the names associated with them, or their brands- which are long gone.

Last I checked, HG Wells didn't have detailed blueprints for a time travel device. H. Gilbert actually did have patented blueprints for an electronic cigarette, which look very similar to today's electronic cigarettes. The technology for H. Gilbert's idea simply wasn't available in 1963 for his invention to be realized.
