I propose a petition of sorts here on this thread to ask Mr. Hon Lik of the Ruyan Company (the father of the modern electronic cigarette) and my personal hero, to join us here on ECF.

That is, if he is still associated with:

Beijing SBT RUYAN technology & Development Co., Ltd
Room 11, Block 5, JianwaiDiplomatic Residence Coupound
No.1 Xiiushui Street, Beijing, China, 100600
Email: inquiry@dragonite329.com.hk

I could not find him on the member list. Why is he not part of "the world’s largest electronic cigarette website"?

I wish to personally thank him and express my deep admiration for him. If you feel as I do, how bout posting a reply or giving a like. I would then like to forward a link to this thread to the Ruyan e-mail address above (unless someone has a better contact address). Might be fun. :):vapor:

Coupound
第一Xiiushui街,北京,中國,100600
電子郵件:inquiry@dragonite329.com.hk

Don't you mean Herbert Gilbert?

Yes, his invention pre-dates Mr. Lik's but it is Mr. Lik's invention which is the basis for the modern e-cig. Both men certainly deserve our praise and thanks. Not sure if Mr. Gilbert is alive, though he might be. If someone has an email address for him, we can send him something as well (if he's not already on the forum).

So this thread is about our giving thanks and showing our admiration and support, particularly for Mr. Lik, but also for Mr. Gilbert. Join me in saying thanks.

Yes, Mr Benz has no track record of producing cars and advancing the automobile industry.

Actually, the first automobiles were steam driven. Unless someone is a car nut, they wouldn't recognize any of the names associated with them, or their brands- which are long gone.

Steam automotives failed. They weren't a practical form of road transport, the internal combustion engine succeeded. It will be superseded but has become widespread enough in its use to be an unequivocally success.

Da Vinci was great at ideas, creating a way to make them work not so much. Kudos for imagination, minus points for practical application. HG Wells invented time travel, that must make him the greatest inventor ever

Last I checked, HG Wells didn't have detailed blueprints for a time travel device. H. Gilbert actually did have patented blueprints for an electronic cigarette, which look very similar to today's electronic cigarettes. The technology for H. Gilbert's idea simply wasn't available in 1963 for his invention to be realized.

I guess that means they weren't the first automobiles, then. Wow. I had no idea inventions and inventors should only get credit if their designs and inventions were financially successful.
