It's been nearly a week since I started vaping and I decided to tell my mother and sister about it today. Both of them have been the strongest in nagging me to quit smoking. My sister is very strongly anti-tobacco/anti-nicotine, etc and would like to see the whole lot of it made illegal so I was expecting her to be rather unsupportive of the harm reduction method. Much to my surprise she listened to what I had to say, asked a few questions and then accepted my choice without any complaint! I was totally blown away with how easy it was. I was expecting a lot of stress and passive aggressiveness but things couldn't have worked out better. My mother is even more supportive of my choice and has been sending me little corny text messages all day.

I thought I'd take a moment to ask you all about your success stories and to throw some kudos out there to the wonderful people who support our choices. Who are your biggest fans?

What day is it
Hey, that's great!! You're so lucky you quit while your mother was still in your life. I started when I was 14, over 40 years ago. My mom and dad pestered me to quit right up until the day they died. A few years later, I discovered e-cigs and I only wish they had still been around, not just for me, but especially my father who couldn't quit until he had to undergo chemotherapy.

I have a couple of friends who are very anti-smoking and have bugged me to quit for 10 years or so - I've smoked for most of the last 37 years.

They are VERY supportive of e-cigs and I am even allowed to vape in their houses - both say the vape smells kind of good (like, faintly whatever flavor I am vaping) and one other friend said it smelled like cigar smoke and she didn't care for it but her husband smokes so she's biased. :)

Biggest weird thing is the Baptist pastor and his wife at a church I work on sometimes - they think it's pretty cool and don't mind at all that I vape in the church. In fact they asked that I give them details about my PV and supplies so they can pass it on to parishioners!

I must say I had no pre-conceived notions about what peoples' reactions might be but I've been pleasantly surprised at the support.

Congrats to you and nice that your family is being supportive. Everyone I know is also very supportive and really quite surprised that I haven't had an analog in almost 5 months! I do get the occasional person who will ask when I'm going to give up the e-cig too. My response is always,,, why should I?? I enjoy it, and it's not killing me! The best part is that my doc is thrilled with it too.. very grateful to have discovered this wonderful world of vaping!! Now I just gotta get my bank account to recover:ohmy:

My fiancè and I had decided to switch from analogs to vaping mainly for better health. It also helps that we are able to save a lot of money and can put that aside for the wedding/honeymoon, which is a big plus also. We are very supportive of each other and our non smoking friends and family members have noticed an improvement in smell (lol) and health and have been behind us every step of the way. It is always nice to have everybody be supportive as it makes everything much more easy and satisfying! Even here in the forums I see so much support from strangers who, at one point, have been there or are even going through it. So congrats so the OP and the others who have had or will share their stories and can be voices of inspiration to others!

Thanks for the good words guys! Great to see so many positive situations. I might have spoken a bit too soon, as my sister did toss down a comment about how long it will take me to stop vaping...and I cheekily replied it took me 12 years to stop cigarettes, so I'll get back to her in a decade :p. But she didn't seem phased at all when I vaped in the same room as her..so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that things continue to go smoothly.
