I've been making my own juices for a while now, and often use 100mg nicotine which I have always worn gloves to handle, assuming it to be "pure". Now I learn that pure nicotine is actually 1000mg/ml, so the stuff I'm using is only 10% strength.

I also watch VapourTrails TV in the UK, where they often talk about vaping 45mg juice, with no detrimental effects at all, just a tendency to vape less often.

So is 100mg nic actually as dangerous to handle as I thought it was, or is it only the pure nic we need to worry about?

Ohhh! That's dangerous. I think it;s better if you would purchase your juices, if 100mg of nicotine you are handling. It will have a bad effects on your body. Please be aware of that..

It supposedly has the power to stop your heart. Now that could be a crock, but not a chance I would be willing to take. Stay gloved up.

Balderdash! Honestly Ive always wanted to say that just once but this isnt entirely accurate. :D

Ive spilled 100mg nicotine on my arm before, back when I was trying out DIY without any adverse affects. With the nicotine suspended in a solution it actually has to sit for awhile to be absorbed into the skin. Even if you smear it, if you were a pack or more day smoker like most of us you would probably only get a headache and a little dizziness.

I didnt know that at the time and completely freaked out.It wasnt necessary, A nice calm walk to the nearest sink and a rinse under cold water will take care of it.

I would be more concerned about getting it into your eyes personally but still recommend that people wear gloves when handling it.

My spill was on the area of my forearm not covered by a glove.

Yes stay gloved up. 1000mg/ml is 100% pure. At that level is extremely deadly. If you pull off the top of a bottle with that strength the vapors alone is enough to kill anyone in room. That's exactly why you have to be lab certified to even acquire it so Joe schmo doesn't kill himself. Although 100mg/ml is only 10% it can still very easily put you in the hospital depending on what your absorption rate and tolerance is. Nicotine was developed as a pesticide because of its toxic properties. Not saying don't go get lab certified for 100mg but respect what can kill you :)

A well ventilated room, gloves (no glove, no love!) and goggles...I also only use 54mg base to mix with.

I figure if we're going out of our way to be safer by vaping than smoking, it's no biggie to take adequate safety precautions when DIYing. Also, on a UK forum, they out-right say not to use 100mg because it's so dangerous. The maximum we can get in this country is 75mg anyway, though...x

BurningRose, you're right on VaperTrails they do admit to using 45mg without any adverse effects. Let's not forget NJoy Kings are also available at High Strength 45mg.

Still, it's better for all involved to use gloves, if you don't use gloves just use gloves, that way everyone feels better and safer even if it's just 27mg at least we don't have to wear full bio-suits yet. Like Zapped says no one needs to panic, trip over the cat, dog and break a leg in the process of scrambling to the nearest sink just in case they poison themselves. Start to panic if it's Not you i.e child, baby etc.

//Rant on: As far as the UK is concerned our Health and Safety laws are positively Ridiculous and frankly Everything is Dangerous, even playing in the park. I grew up in Africa, lived in many countries and I have never come across a bigger Nanny state, citizens Blame the government for Everything just because Common Sense was left at the door or locked in the attic or thrown out with the bathwater. We are not permitted to think for ourselves and God forbid we take responsibility for our own actions. rant off//

I had a bottle that got mixed near what I think was 50mg in a menthol. Let me tell you whoever said no ill effects is insane. I was on 24mg at the time and one puff got me dizzy, headaches, and tightness in my chest. Be careful with that stuff and make sure you have a plan in place for a spill.

Not insane at all just better informed. You vaped it where its absorbed much more rapidly into your blood stream.

I'll say it one more time in case anyone didnt hear it. Nicotine in a liquid suspension, especially a thick liquid like VG WILL NOT be absorbed immediately into the skin in high enough amounts to hurt you. It would have to sit there for at least 5 minutes before you begin noticing any effects. Thats more than enough time to get to a sink and wash it off.

Thats why the patch works the way it does.It has to maintain constant contact with your skin to be absorbed.

The best defense is of course to wear gloves and to cover exposed areas of your body ESPECIALLY your eyes, but theres no need to freak and think youre going to die in the event of an accident involving a minor spill.

As a 24mg vaper, I find it cleaner to fill tanks with a syringe. When out, I drip from a 3ml bottle into my tank to top off and occasionally I find a little on my fingers afterward. That hasn't caused any side effects but it's nice to be next to a water source to wash it off. I wouldn't play with 100mg or higher without gloves.

I have always been curious about the fear over 100mg juice. I vaped 24mg for a while. When I did, I often got the 24mg on my hands when messing with attys and such. The quantities on my hand were well in excess of a couple drops.

I never felt any nicotine buzz from this.

I wouldn't want to push my luck and get 100mg juice on me in this way, but, based on my experience and my thinking, a drop or 2 of 100mg should equal 4-8 drops of 24mg.

So a drop or 2 of 100mg on your hands is unlikely to cause much problem.

Or is there something wrong with my thinking?

However, I agree the gloves are probably a good idea if dealing with 100mg, just because it is always possible to have an "oh, crap" moment and dump a bunch of stuff on your hand somehow.
